Located in the south-central region of B.C., the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) covers an area over 10,400 square kilometers and is renowned for its orchards, vineyards and golf courses, as well as its widely varied landscape including deserts, mountains and valleys, pristine lakes and outdoor recreational opportunities.
The RDOS is seeking a dynamic leader to fill the position of Interim Fire Chief to support the Okanagan Falls Volunteer Fire Department. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Protective Services, the Fire Chief is responsible for the overall administration of the fire department and shall have control, direction and management of all equipment and personnel. The position manages auxiliary staff in compliance with the Fire Services Act (B.C.), British Columbia Structure Firefighter Minimum Training Standards, Regional District bylaws, policies and statutory requirements.
In accordance with the Fire Commissioners Structure Firefighter Playbook, the preferred candidate should possess (or be willing to enroll in):

- Accredited Certification, at the Exterior Operations Level Firefighter and Team Leader Exterior Operations Level or equivalent.
- Accredited Certification at the Exterior Operations Level as a Risk Management Officer or equivalent.
- Accredited Certification as a Company Fire Officer or equivalent.
- A minimum of five (5) years within a fire department with progressively responsible leadership and Officer experience.
- Knowledge of the fire department operational guidelines, policies, procedures, local bylaws, provincial codes, acts and regulations.
- Strong conflict resolution and facilitation skills. Critical Incident Stress Debriefing training would be an asset.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with the proven ability to motivate and organize personnel.
- Proven leadership in the achievement of goals and objectives.
- Must live within a response time of thirty (30) minutes of the Fire Hall. Preference may be given to applicants who live within the fire service area.
- Ability to respond to emergencies as needed, including weekends and evenings.
- Must be able to work under demanding conditions during emergencies.
- Valid Class 5 B.C. Drivers Licence with a driving abstract that reflects a responsible and safe driving record with airbrake endorsement.
- Clear Criminal Record Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Check.
Compensation includes a monthly stipend range of $1,638 for extraordinary administrative duties, as well as an hourly rate for callouts, training, and meetings. Health benefits are available upon meeting eligibility criteria.
