The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen is currently recruiting for a regular, full-time Projects Coordinator I to join the Public Works team.

The Projects Coordinator I is responsible for providing project management coordination and education functions for a variety of programs, projects and initiatives in support of water and wastewater utility activities and the organization's strategic priorities. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Carries out and coordinates project management of special projects from inception to completion, including concept and procedure development, stakeholder/partnership engagement and reporting to all parties on deliverables.
  • Identifies project risks and develops risk mitigation strategies and/or risk controls.
  • Provides work direction to contracted resources, monitors delivery of services in relation to contract terms, resolves routine problems and escalates non-compliance issues.
  • Applies for and coordinates all documentation related to grant opportunities.
  • Acts as a representative of the Regional District at meetings and presentations with partners and other interested parties to provide specific project information at the provincial, regional and local levels.
  • Creates written and presents oral reports to the Board of Directors and a variety of other stakeholders.
  • Produces complex correspondence, reports, and spreadsheets potentially within short timeframes.
  • Produces advertising, public notifications, newsletters, press release information and bulletins as required.
  • Prepares and carries out educational events related to water conservation and water restrictions and acts as subject matter advisor to local governments, community groups, schools and the general public.
  • Implements, executes and maintains the water metering programs (i.e. leak detection, education).
  • Organizes events, tradeshows, and ceremonies as required.
  • Provides cost data for input to budgets, purchasing or program decisions, or contracts.
  • Supervises seasonal staff, including such duties as scheduling, performing training, developing health and safety plans for the crew, assigning and reviewing work, arranging and monitoring storage of materials and ensuring maintenance is completed on field equipment; refers performance reviews and disciplinary issues to department manager. 
  • Participates on the Emergency Response Team as required.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

 QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two-year diploma in environmental science, resource or water management or related discipline. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Three (3) years of related experience preferable in a municipal and/or regional government setting.
  • Knowledge of project management related to water technology, natural resources, and environmental conservation.
  • Knowledge of residential/agricultural irrigation and landscaping. Certified training is considered an asset.
  • Experience in grant writing is considered an asset.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills involving public speaking and outreach activities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the Board of Directors, committees, and a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to conduct qualitative and quantitative research and perform cost-benefit analysis.
  • Ability to plan, implement and evaluate programs and projects.
  • Ability to prepare requests for proposals and quotes according to the purchasing policy and related directives.
  • Ability to work on a number of concurrent tasks with deadline pressures.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive matters with discretion and integrity.
  • Demonstrated computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, and Excel) and comfort with social media platforms.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.   
  • Ability to pass and maintain a clear criminal record check.
  • Valid BC Driver’s Licence.

This regular, full-time position is included in the BCGEU bargaining unit.  The hourly wage for the position is $43.56 per hour and will increase to $43.78 per hour on July 1, 2026. In addition, we offer an attractive benefits package.
