Located in the south-central region of B.C., the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) covers an area over 10,400 km2 and is renowned for its orchards, vineyards and golf courses, as well as its widely varied landscape including deserts, mountains and valleys, pristine lakes and outdoor recreational opportunities.
The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen is currently recruiting for a seasonal, full-time Parks Attendant to join the Community & Environmental Services team.
The Parks Attendant is responsible for performing a variety of routine and technical tasks in the operation and maintenance of parks, trails, grounds (including designated cemeteries) and for a variety of Regional District facilities. This position has a focus on irrigation installation, repair and maintenance and arboriculture techniques used in the maintenance of regional outdoor recreation assets.
Qualifications:
- One (1) year of post secondary or trade school training in a related discipline.
- Two (2) years of experience in a related position such as, horticulture, landscaping, cemeteries and facility maintenance. A combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Holds or has the ability to attain two (2) or more certifications/licenses related to parks and facilities maintenance include:
- Horticulture
- Herbicide Applicator
- Playground Inspection
- Irrigation
- Equipment Operation
- Facility Operator
- Custodial
- Small Engine Repair
- Strong knowledge and work experience with a variety of equipment and power tools.
- Experience operating and maintaining small-motorized equipment.
- Good mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently, with limited supervision.
- Ability to assist in evaluating site conditions to prioritize and adapt work plans.
- Ability to be courteous and diplomatic in dealing with the public and co-workers.
- Ability to conduct field work and produce simple reports such as recording inventory of corporate assets (GPS use) and RCMP files.
- Good physical condition with sufficient strength and stamina to perform heavy manual work in all types of weather conditions.
- Ability to read blueprints and plans and prepare sketches is considered an asset.

- Demonstrated computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Teams and Excel), database entry, and experience with Google Earth.
- Valid First Aid Certificate or an ability to obtain.
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence with an ability to tow trailers using heavy-duty trucks.
This seasonal, full-time position is included in the BCGEU bargaining unit. The hourly wage for the position is $32.92 per hour (Jan.- Jun. rate), then $33.25 (Jul.- Dec. rate) plus an attractive benefits package.
