About the Opportunity

Currently, TKDN Board of Education has exciting opportunities for multiple full-time Teachers to join our school, based in Tsay Keh Dene, BC.

  • K-2 Kindergarten Teacher
  • Grade 3 to 5 Elementary School Teacher
  • Grade 6 to 8 Middle School Teacher
  • Grade 9 High School Teacher
  • Math and Science High School Teacher
  • Fitness and Outdoor Learning Teacher
  • Special Education Teacher

The successful candidates must relocate to Tsay Keh Dene, fully immersing in the community to better serve and understand our students' needs.

Reporting to the School Principal, and with the help of the support staff, your role is to assess, provide guidance, and encourage students while also developing lesson plans and relevant curricula. Teaching small class sizes (6 to 8 students per class) will allow you to build stronger teacher-student relationships and encourage student participation.

As a teacher, your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing and implementing engaging lesson plans aligned with the BC curriculum
  • Encouraging all students to participate and take part in school activities
  • Creating a culturally responsive learning environment and incorporating our culture into the curriculum and classroom teaching
  • Assessing student progress and providing individualized support and guidance
  • Collaborating with colleagues and community members to support the holistic development of students
  • Attending and participating in parent-teacher conferences, staff meetings and cultural initiatives
  • Maintaining accurate records of student progress and compliance with school policies
  • Support students' well-being and development, promoting a positive and inclusive school culture

More About You

To qualify as a teacher, you will need a Bachelor of Education degree in a relevant field and a valid BC teaching certificate. A teaching certificate from another Canadian province will be accepted if the candidate is willing to obtain a BC teaching certificate. Independent school certificates will be considered as well.
A minimum of two years experience teaching the level and subjects relevant to the position you are applying for is preferredbut candidates with less experience who demonstrate strong motivation will be considered.

Please note that all shortlisted candidates must have the ability to undergo a criminal record check with vulnerable sector clearance.

For the Fitness and Outdoor Learning Teacher, a valid class 5 driving licence is required and a class 4 an asset.

The following skills and experience will be strong assets:

  • Knowledge and understanding of First Nations culture, traditions, and history
  • Good communication skills and willingness to create relationships with community stakeholders and parents
  • Experience working in a First Nations community or with Indigenous students
  • Ability to create culturally responsive and inclusive learning environments
  • Proficiency in instructional technology and student assessment method
  • Uuderstanding of trauma-informed practices
  • Outdoor training experience (Canadian Ranger or Army Cadets programs)
  • Knowledge of Smart Board and Google Classroom
