POSITION TITLE:               Garbage/Recycling Truck Operator         

DEPARTMENT:                 Planning and Engineering           

SUPERVISOR:                     Public Works Foreman 

TERMS:                                Full-time, Permanent

Purpose of Position:

 

The purpose of this position is to safely complete garbage removal from TteS resident dwellings as well as care and maintain of all tools and equipment within TteS Public Works Department.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  1. Operates and maintains garbage/recycling truck to ensure proper garbage/recycling removal for the residents of TteS. (95%)
  • Operates garbage/recycling truck to remove garbage/recycling and other refuse and dump loads at designated sites.
  • Performs pre-trip inspection of all vehicle systems and equipment such as tires, lights, brakes and fluid levels.
  • Performs safe operating and maintenance practices and procedures related to all equipment in the Public Works Department.
  • Assists in mechanical servicing and light repair of equipment.
  • Exercises courtesy and tact in dealing with all Band members and the public.
  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with TteS policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Maintains confidentiality on all matters relating to the affairs of TteS.

 

  1. Other related duties, as necessary. (5%)
  • Including backfilling other Public Works operations such as maintenance functions for community infrastructure, and landscaping of public areas and TteS facilities.

Professional Certification, Education and Experience:

 

Must have grade 10 education or previous experience driving in snowy and hazardous road conditions.

Must possess a valid Level One First Aid ticket.

Must possess WHIMIS Training / Certificate.

Must possess a valid current Class 5 driver’s licence.

Must provide a current clean driver abstract and maintain same throughout employment.

Prefer WCB Work Safe Training.

Ability to organize and coordinate work.

Basic mechanical skills. Strong work ethic,

Self- motivated and reliable.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Excellent verbal communication skills

Good written communication skills.

Strong conflict resolution skills.

Ability to take direction.

Ability to work independently/unsupervised.

Knowledge of related codes involving Landfill operations.

Physically able to perform duties.

It is expected that all TteS employees be willing to continuously upgrade their skills and knowledge, and to further their formal training.

HOURS OF WORK:           Normal Day shifts – 7 hours. Non-normal shifts may be required.

PAY GRADE:                       $20.08 – $29.53/hour depending on education and experience
