Community Care Aide
Regular Full Time
The Community Care Aide supports TFN members with essential daily living tasks that enable them to remain safe, healthy, and independent in their homes and community. Working under the guidance and delegation of licensed professionals (RN, LPN), the Care Aide delivers hands-on personal care, emotional support, and basic home assistance, forming a critical link in the TFN health care model. All services are provided with cultural humility, trauma-informed practice, and a deep respect for client autonomy.
This role is a key component of a collaborative care team that includes RNs and LPNs. Care Aides implement care plans, observe and report on client needs, and ensure that members receive compassionate, consistent support aligned with TFN's values and wellness goals.
Duties and Responsibilities
Personal Care & Support (as delegated by RN/LPN)
- Assist clients with bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting
- Support safe transfers, mobility, and positioning
- Provide meal preparation and nutrition support
- Offer respectful and culturally safe in-home companionship
Health Monitoring & Communication
- Observe and report physical or emotional changes to the RN or LPN
- Provide medication reminders (non-administration) as instructed
- Track basic client wellness indicators (e.g., appetite, mood, routines)
Home Support & Safety
- Perform light housekeeping to ensure a safe and clean environment
- Support clients with errands or access to personal supplies
- Report home safety hazards or unmet needs to the Supervisor or RN
Cultural & Emotional Support
- Engage respectfully with Elders and families in accordance with TFN cultural protocols
- Encourage participation in wellness programs and cultural activities
- Maintain a non-judgmental, empathetic, and trauma-informed approach
Team Collaboration
- Participate in team meetings, care reviews, and planning discussions
- Document visits and observations according to TFN procedures
- Follow direction from supervising health professionals with professionalism and accountability
Performance Indicators
- Timely and respectful implementation of delegated care
- Accurate observation and reporting to nursing staff
- Clean and safe home environments maintained
- Positive client relationships and engagement in wellness goals
- Active contribution to team collaboration and culturally safe care delivery
Qualifications
- Certificate from a recognized Health Care Assistant or Community Support Worker program
- 1–2 years of experience providing direct care to Elders or vulnerable adults
- Knowledge of Indigenous health values, cultural safety, and trauma-informed care
- Ability to follow delegated care plans and report changes accurately
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle
- Current First Aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Successful completion of an Enhanced Criminal Record Check
Working Conditions
- Community-based with in-home and mobile services throughout TFN lands
- Currently, we're looking for someone who can work 10-hour days over four days, potentially including weekends
- Standard hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–4:30 PM; occasional evening/weekend work may be required
- Requires physical capacity to lift, transfer, or assist clients safely
Wages: Pay scale for this position is $29.29 to $32.94 per hour with excellent benefits including enrolment in the BC Municipal Pension Plan. Placement within the pay scale is based on a review of skills, experience & internal equity.
