The Senior Accountant is a pivotal member of our finance team, responsible for managing day-to-day financial operations, reporting and period-end close processes for TFN and its related entities. This role includes preparing financial statements, period-end adjustments, and various reconciliations.

 

Key Responsibilities

Accounting

  • Perform full-cycle accounting and month-end/year-end close processes.
  • Collaborate with various departments and work closely with AR/AP staff to ensure accurate books of accounts.
  • Lead bookkeeping activities for TFN-related entities.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
  • Implement and maintain internal financial controls and procedures.

 

Reporting

  • Assist with external audits and special reporting.
  • Assist in departmental reporting needs.
  • Assist in preparing periodic reporting packages for the Executive Council.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and external reporting requirements, including tax and government bodies.

  

Financial Analysis

  • Assist in the preparation of the annual budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Conduct variance analysis to compare actual results with budgeted figures.
  • Provide recommendations based on financial analysis to support decision-making.

 

General

  • Guide and mentor junior accounting staff.
  • Assist with special accounting projects and initiatives, as needed.

 

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification preferred but not required.
  • An analytical mind with problem-solving attitude.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to prioritize in a fast-paced growth environment.
  • Ability to deliver results independently and while working with a team.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Hands-on experience with MS Excel and accounting software (e.g. QuickBooks).
  • Analytical mindset with a problem-solving attitude.

 

Wages  

Pay scale for this position is $38.56 to $45.79 per hour with excellent benefits including enrolment in the BC Municipal Pension Plan. Placement within the pay scale is based on a review of skills, experience & internal equity. 

 

Working Conditions

Monday to Friday 8:30 to 4:30. This position includes an optional hybrid remote work / in-person, subject to the approval of the department Manager.  On rare occasions, some evening or weekend work may be required depending on operational needs.
