New Directions is a social service agency offering a wide range of resources and services that foster people’s hopes and dreams in their communities.

 

Family Supports (FS) is a branch of our Child Home Services Program.  The goal of Family Supports is to provide parents and their children with short term support, guided by their needs. The Casual Support Worker will work collaboratively for a short time, before stepping back and watching the family flourish.  Timelines are unique to each family, but our goal is to be involved for 2 - 3 years or less.

 

Job Responsibilities Include: (But are not limited to)

  • Take the lead from the family, and work alongside them in their family home
  • Work alongside families to achieve their identified goals
  • Work with families who may have children under the age of 5
  • Support the family with connecting to their community, neighborhood and resources
  • Some supports may require toilet training, diaper changing and hygiene routines with children
  • Supporting the families' emotional, physical, and cultural development
  • Be a positive role model
  • Be available for work Monday through Friday between the hours of 8am-4:30pm.  Flexible hours and scheduling is one of the benefits of this unique opportunity

 

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent. Preference will be given to candidates with post-secondary education in the area(s) of disability services, or Early Childhood Education
  • Minimum 1 year of experience working with children
  • A Valid Class 5 Driver's License and access to a vehicle is not required, but recommended 
  • Effective problem-solving ability & strong communication skills
  • The ability to work cohesively with others and be part of a team
  • First Aid/CPR and NVCI training will be provided.
  • Preference will be given to applicants who identify as Indigenous

The starting salary range for all casual employees is $17.11 per hour. 

 

The successful candidate will be subject to Criminal Record and Adult/Child Abuse Registry Checks; and must supply a satisfactory driver’s abstract.
