Skeetchestn Indian Band is seeking a Four Pillars Advisor to support our 4 Pillars Program, focusing on the development and implementation of a plan that embeds wellness, culture, language, and heritage in an effort to revitalize and reclaim cultural practices within the community. Reporting to administration and working closely with internal departments, this role involves the coordination, support and recruitment of membership to engagement events. The Four Pillars Advisor will collaborate with consultants to support the development of a strategic plan based on the 4 Pillars, and conducting research to advance community-driven initiatives that support cultural revitalization.
This is a one-year contract with the potential for extension based on the program’s success and direction, including the strategies for implementing a 4 Pillars Plan in community.
Key Responsibilities
Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Skeetchestn Indian Band policies, practices, and procedures as directed by the Director of Operations. Maintains confidentiality as required pertaining to students, members, employees, and general matters of SIB.
Action Plan Development (First 8 Months):
- Collaborate with the 4 Pillars project team and consultants to develop an action plan.
- Coordinate community engagement events, including logistics, promotion, recruitment and outreach.
- Maintain and update membership contact lists.
- Map the current culture and language programming that exists in community.
- Integrate Secwépemc ceremony and protocol into engagements.
- Attend engagement sessions, supporting respectful and inclusive dialogue with community members.
- Capture input from leadership, staff, community members, youth, knowledge keepers and language speakers etc.
- Support related meetings and contribute to action plan drafting.
Post-Action Plan Implementation:
- Lead program planning and budgeting for 4 Pillars initiatives.
- Support hiring or program implementation processes and oversee capital purchases.
- Work with Skeetchestn department leads to enhance and coordinate cultural programs, activities, initiatives and resources.
- Prepare timely reports for funders.
Other related duties as required.
Qualifications
- A relevant post-secondary degree, certification, or diploma.
- Experience or education in culture, language, heritage, or wellness programming.
- Successful criminal record check.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable internet.
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, and social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, etc.
- Experience managing budgets and staff.
- Strong organization, communication, and multitasking skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, with openness to feedback.
- Flexibility to work evenings or weekends as needed to accommodate engagement events.
- Strong knowledge of Skeetchestn community and/or Secwepemctsín is an asset, with a willingness to learn.
