Skeetchestn Safe home Housing is a safe home that makes a difference in people’s lives. With a goal of providing a home for everyone, Skeetchestn’s programs sustain relationships, strengthen communities, and make change for people experiencing homelessness, mental health, trauma, violence, and substance use issues. We invite you to be a part of the change. You will provide a cultural daily living environment for the residents of Skeetchestn safe home. This entails providing and maintaining a safe, supportive atmosphere in a safe home setting that is culturally open and accessible to First Nations, Families, youth, Elders and LGBTQIA+. In addition, you will support the daily functions of the safe home and provide reports directly to the Family Support Managers.

 

Key Responsibilities

Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Skeetchestn Indian Band policies, practices, and procedures as directed by the Family Support Manager and Director of Operations. Maintains confidentiality as required pertaining to clients, members, employees, and general matters of SIB.

 

 

  • Safe home supervisor will be responsible for the intake and output of Safe home clients
  • Light Housekeeping and gardening activities
  • Light Housing Maintenance
  • Light Food preparation
  • Resolve conflict situations
  • Supervise activities of clients living in safe homes
  • Transport patients
  • Answer call signals
  • Administer first aid in emergency situations
  • Assist patient with goal setting
  • Connecting Clients with appropriate support, as needed, connecting them to multiple barriered Program Participants and to assist them in acquiring affordable, safe, and supported housing.
  • Working with Skeetchestn Social Workers to Identify and develop a customized support system for each client including ‘active’ referrals to essential services/programs.

 

  • Liaise with key community caregivers regarding necessary support systems for the client including financial and life skills programming.
  • Harm reduction distribution and education.
  • One-on-one contact with community members on the street and in emergency shelter.
  • Provide outreach services in partnership with other community programs in collaboration with the Family support Manager.
  • Provide monthly documentation of client statistics and work duties performed.
  • When required provide additional services to other supportive housing settings.
  • Support in Providing crisis support and assessment when required.
  • Contribute to the protection of Program Participants from abuse, and support Program Participants when they are in distress.
  • Work closely with Social Worker supporting with referral agencies.
  • Monitor and move along community members who are loitering in and around the property.
  • Provide crisis intervention as required including overdose responses by ensuring immediate access to medical services and completing necessary incident reports when required.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Support in conducting assessments of potential Program Participants
  • Complete accurate and up to date communication/case notes.
  • Maintain files, clerical and electronic.
  • When requested, be a member of the family Support Department in Performance and Quality Improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with all Safe home policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Training, Education, Experience

  • Human Services Diploma, Support Worker/Care Aid Certificate, or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or lived experience.
  • First Aid certification with CPR C
  • Food Safe certification
  • Clear Criminal Record check for working with vulnerable persons
  • Valid BC Driver's License (Class 5) safe driving record and reliable/appropriate transportation.
  • Strong ability to recognize and address difficult behaviors.
  • Good communication, documentation, interpersonal and conflict management skills.
  • Ability to work within a team-based environment involving multi-agency supports.
  • Strong working knowledge of community resources.
  • Understands and maintains professional boundaries.
  • Mental Health First Aid, ASIST, and Trauma Informed Practice an asset.
