Wage: $20.00- $24.00 based on experience
The Custodian provides general cleaning, sanitation, and upkeep of Skeetchestn Community School, interior and exterior. The custodian ensures a clean and safe working environment for staff, clients, and visitors using Skeetchestn Community School facilities.
Key Responsibilities
Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Skeetchestn Indian Band policies, practices, and procedures as directed by the Principal of Skeetchestn School. Maintains confidentiality as required pertaining to members, clients, employees, and general matters of SIB.
Janitorial/Custodial
• Follows all safe work procedures including wearing PPE as required and following WHMIS regulations. Files incident reports to Manager immediately upon occurrence.
• Cleans bathrooms; sanitizes toilets and urinals, sinks, door handles and refills supplies.
• Cleans classrooms; sanitizes counters and desks, empties garbage, and vacuums floors.
• Sweeps, wet mops, vacuums floors regularly.
• Cleans offices; cleans desk areas and offices including wiping down chairs, cleaning windows, blinds, and glass doors, dusting surfaces as required.
• Spot washes walls and doors as required.
• Secure and lock up building at the end of shift if no one else in building. Ensures all windows and doors are closed and locked as required.
• Removes all garbage from every office, meeting rooms, and common areas for disposal – removes and properly disposes of any cardboard (including dissembling boxes) or recyclable bottles.
• Keeps aware of condition of paint, heating, air conditioning, plumbing and electrical systems and forward any problems to the Custodian.
• Ensures garden beds, grass, edges are maintained, free of weeds and watered.
• Ensures all accesses (steps, landings, etc) to the buildings are kept clear of snow and ice.
• Restocks supplies throughout building as required.
• Advises Custodian or Principal when a supply order is required.
Other
• Assists as required in emergency situations.
• Assists with large events, special occasions and year end cleaning duties.
Qualifications
Training, Education, Experience
• Grade 10.
• WHMIS certification or ability to get certified quickly.
• Reliable Transportation
• Satisfactory criminal records check.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
• Knowledge of and ability to follow safe work procedures.
• General knowledge of janitorial and maintenance activities and grounds keeping.
• Ability to safely use tools and equipment.
• Excellent client service skills. Friendly, positive, responsive, professional and helpful.
• Ability to exercise and model a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality.
• Able to work independently as well as working within a collaborative team framework.
• Genuine respect for Skeetchestn Indian Band culture and protocols.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in indoor and outdoor settings in all weather conditions. Must follow safe work and check-in procedures. Physical ability to perform duties such as climbing, stooping, standing, lifting. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends and flexible hours as required to respond to emergencies.
