Minimum Qualification Requirements:

  1. Minimum bachelor’s degree in related field or College Diploma with 3-5 years’ experience
  2. Excellent comprehension of substance abuse issues including intervention strategies and the impact of substance misuse on the individual, family and community.
  3. Experience and expertise in the area of community development related to family engagement
  4. Expertise in the area of socio-economic capacity building
  5. Well-developed interpersonal communication skills.
  6. Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team-orient environment.
  7. No current history of personal substance abuse and /or addictions issues.
  8. Ability to model and participate in the promotion Healthy lifestyles.
  9. Flexibility to perform evening or weekend work as required.

Class 5 B.C Driver License and use of a reliable and insured vehicle.

Special Equipment Required:

  1. Emotional/mental health activities will include individual and group counseling, inter-agency referrals, external resource referrals, academic and career assistance, crisis intervention, family support, parent/child intervention, and high-risk behavioral assessment.
  2. Psycho-social development activities will include coordinating activities that facilitate social interaction within the peer group, individual and group guidance sessions, role modeling and mentorship opportunities, and academic support.
  3. Healthy lifestyle development activities will include coordinating individual and group sessions focused on adopting healthier lifestyle choices; including sessions and presentations on addiction-free lifestyles for youth, parents and community; physical fitness and sports; nutrition; healthy relationships & communication; cultural awareness and healthy recreational activities as an alternative to substance misuse.
  4. Capacity building-career readiness support activities will include coordinating with the OIB HR team and other departments to support the family to explore a variety of career options and identify their specific goals to achieve success in their chosen area. With the lead of the HR team, some of the activities that the families may undertake include: self-evaluation, employment skills assessment, career exploration, job acquisition and employment opportunities, mentoring and job shadowing opportunities, job readiness, job retention.
  5. Valid Class 5 BC driver’s licenses.
  6. Knowledge of Federal and Provincial funded social/health programs
