Fortis Mining, Engineering, & Manufacturing is currently recruiting for the position of Machinist (1st Year Apprentice). The role’s primary responsibility is assisting in the set up and operation of various machine tools, including lathes, milling machines, and Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) machines. The role involves following technical drawings and specifications to produce precision parts and components. Throughout the apprenticeship, you will receive training in safety procedures, tool handling, measurement techniques, and material handling. Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test will be required as a condition of employment.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist Senior Machinists in setting up machines and tooling according to job specifications
- Learn to interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical instructions
- Operate manual and computer-controlled (CNC) machinery to perform machining operations
- Fit and assemble machined metal parts and subassemblies using hand and power tools
- Measure and inspect machined parts to ensure they are up to quality standards
- Assist with all duties related to loading and unloading materials in a safe and timely manner
- Inspect materials for damages, discrepancies, or irregularities, reporting any issues to the supervisor
- Pick and assemble customer/delivery orders
- Place/store products in their assigned locations
- Move materials between workstations as required
- Move materials into the shop and load machines as required
- Organize and maintain inventory in a controlled manner
- Operate forklifts/zoom booms and lifting devices for movement of parts
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Adhere and comply with Company policies and Safety and Environmental regulation
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
- Highschool diploma or equivalent
- Registered as Year 1 Machinist Apprentice, or eligible to register in the Machinist Apprenticeship program
- Basic understanding of mechanical principles and machining concepts is preferred
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Good communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Willingness to learn and take direction from Senior Machinists and trainers
- Ability to lift and move heavy materials and equipment
- Must possess stamina and dexterity to stand, bend, and operate machinery for extended periods
