The Cleaning Technician plays a crucial role in maintaining a clean and sanitary environment at the Northern Strands Group of Companies (NSGC) buildings to ensure a safe, organized, and welcoming workspace for employees and visitors. The Cleaning Technician performs duties requiring high attention to detail, ability to follow detailed instructions, initiative, and independence.

This position works 30 hours per week.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
General         

• Vacuum all walk-off mats and carpets
• Spot clean walls
• Clean glass doors of smudges, dirt, and debris
• Sweep and mop hard surface floors and staircases
• Vacuum/wipe down couches, chairs, and side tables
• Sweep and damp mop main staircase
• Clean handrail and dust all surfaces of main staircase
• Dust showroom shelving and displays
• Empty garbage from all workstations, offices, and meeting rooms
• Empty recycle bins from collection areas
• Clean deck - shovel snow off in winter; wash down in summer; wipe all furniture as needed

Lunchrooms

• Wipe down and sanitize counters, tables, and sinks
• Clean microwaves - interiors and exteriors
• Spot clean fridges - interiors and exteriors
• Wipe down handles on appliances, cupboards, and drawers
• Wipe down seating areas and water bottle fill station
• Clean coffee pots as per defined procedure
• Empty all garbage
• Load/unload dishwasher as required

Washrooms & Locker Rooms       

• Sweep and spot mop as required
• Refill all dispensers (soap, paper towel, toilet paper, urinal pucks, etc.)
• Empty garbage and wrapper boxes
• Clean and sanitize all fixtures including mirrors, light switches, dispensers, taps, toilets
• Wipe walls as needed

Shop 

• Clean shop bathrooms including all fixtures
• Wipe down water bottle fill stations
• Sweep and mop the Shipping/Receiving office and wipe down countertop
• Clean all shop sinks as required

Other Duties

• Occasional deep cleaning or emergency cleaning situations
• Report maintenance or repair issues to the Building Manager
• Follow safety guidelines and use cleaning chemicals appropriately
• Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

• Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent
• Minimum of 1 year experience in a commercial cleaning setting
• Physical endurance to perform duties such as bending, lifting up to 50 lbs, wearing a backpack vacuum, long periods of repetitive tasks, etc.
• Ability to communicate in English, both written and verbally
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
• Strong time-management skills and ability to complete tasks efficiently within designated work hours
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple responsibilities
• Possess a positive and professional attitude, set a high standard, and convey professionalism at all times
• Valid Driver’s license
