Head of Marketing and Communications
Hours: Full Time

Reporting to: CEO
The Role
To provide strategic direction and leadership in the development and execution of the National Ice Centre and Motorpoint Arena Nottingham’s Marketing and Communications Strategy, aligned with the Company’s Business Plan. This effort will drive ticket sales, enhance customer engagement, and elevate the venue’s profile.
To develop strong working relationships and effective communication with a diverse range of stakeholders—from the Board and promoters to national governing bodies and staff—positioning the venue to maximise opportunities for continued growth and success.
Key Responsibilities
1. Define and lead the Marketing and Communications Strategy for the National Ice Centre and Motorpoint Arena Nottingham to deliver the Business Plan objectives.
2. Create, lead and develop a high-performance Marketing and Communications Team, providing inspirational leadership, professional insights and mentorship based upon extensive experience.
3. Overall responsibility for the marketing budget, ensuring the team effectively allocate resources and deliver ROI on marketing initiatives.
4. Enable high quality creative direction into event marketing campaigns, content creation and design.
5. Work strategically with the venue’s ticketing partner to optimise the marketing capabilities of the system and maximise all opportunities around customer data collection and use.
6. Develop and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders ranging from the Board to promoters, national governing bodies, commercial partners and staff to ensure marketing and communications activities deliver effective outcomes.
7. Build and nurture strong commercial relationships with sponsors, promoters, agencies and suppliers to deliver effective and efficient collaboration. This includes contract negotiations and managing ongoing partnerships to maximise impact and value.
8. Ensure the ongoing evolution and execution of the venue’s communications strategy and plan, driving engagement and positive brand perception.
9. Act as a key member of the Company’s Leadership Team, contributing to the wider development of the Company and its strategies.
Experience, Knowledge & Skills
- A CIM Level 6 Diploma in Professional & Digital Marketing or similar level of qualification is highly desirable
- Proven experience in leading and developing marketing and communications strategies, managing budgets, and overseeing high-quality project delivery, ideally within the arts, entertainment or sports industry
- Strong leadership skills with a track record of motivating and guiding teams to achieve their objectives
- Expertise in leading on event marketing, content creation and digital marketing strategies
- Experience of managing and utilising extensive amounts of customer data to create optimal marketing opportunities is essential, experience of ticketing system data is desirable but not essential
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Ability to quickly build rapport and develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Strong negotiating and commercial relationship skills
- Excellent attention to detail, proof reading and copywriting skills, with an ability to succinctly summarise for senior management and Board level
- Strong project management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple campaigns simultaneously
- Experience of delivering under pressure in a fast-paced environment with demanding external clients and hard deadlines
- A passion for live entertainment and/or sport
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends where needed
