Maintenance Technician

About the Opportunity

As a member of the property and fleet team, this position plays a key role in the maintenance, general upkeep and routine services of CLS properties. This position working closely with the property and fleet management to support our community living objectives and ensuring that emergency planning procedures are in place and compliance with health and safety standards across the organization. Some of your duties can include:

  • General handyman duties, minor plumbing, electrical repairs and maintenance
  • Inspection, maintenance of boilers, HVAC etc.
  •  Trouble shooting and strong general repair skills
  •  Troubleshoot of appliances
  • General carpentry, installation of blinds, fixing doors, cabinets etc.
  •  Drywall, tiling and painting
  •  Renovation skills
  •  Problem solving and decision-making skills\
  • Assist in developing and executing preventative maintenance programs


About You

Through sound, collaborative planning and fiscal accountability the successful candidate will ensure the proper use and maintenance of the physical resources and equipment used by the Society in support of individuals. As a strong and supportive presence this position will seek out ways to maximize the integration of individuals into their respective communities and neighborhoods.

The successful candidate must hold a solid commitment to the mission, vision, and values of the Society.

Additionally, you have the following requirements:


  • Senior secondary graduation or equivalent
  • At least 2 years’ of relevant building maintenance/general handyman work experience
  • A Criminal Record Search
  • Medical Form including immunizations
  • Emergency First Aid Certificate
  • Basic knowledge of all trades such as electrical, wiring, roofing, paving, building, flooring, painting, plumbing, landscaping, siding, window, roofing
  •  Experience in minor plumbing, minor electrical, carpentry, drywall
  •  Experience in soldering, troubleshoot of appliances, repair works
  •  Must possess valid driver's license and clean driving record
  •  Responsive and remains professional in stressful situations
  •  Be available for on- call on a rotating schedule to deal with problems that occur after hours and/or weekends


  • Knowledge of best practices and adherence to regulatory requirements such as CARF, SOP, BCHMC community care facilities licensing
  • Knowledge of municipal bylaws and industry codes, WorkSafe BC and occupational health and safety
  •  Ability to source contractors and provide quality control of work performed by contractors.
  •  Computer skills
  •  Attention to detail and organized

Hours: Permanent, Full-Time, Monday- Friday 9:00am-5:00pm (weekends on-call)
