New Directions is a social service agency offering a wide range of resources and services that foster people’s hopes and dreams in their communities.
Supported Cluster Housing (SCH) is one of the many services offered by New Directions. Cluster Housing provides independent living supports to people who may have intellectual disabilities and/or mental health issues, and who experience barriers to living independently in the community.
We are currently seeking a full-time Community Resource Worker with the ability to work evenings (4pm-11pm) Monday through Friday. This position will float amongst the Cluster Housing Units based on the support needs.
Job Responsibilities Include: (But are not limited to)
- Monitor and secure housing buildings to ensure the safety of all tenants
- Support individuals through crisis situations, and who may be in conflict with the law and struggling with addictions.
- Participate in regular programming with supported individuals, this includes recreation, swimming, work experience, and community events
- Ensure visitors do not enter the buildings
- Respond to crisis situations and/or contacting 911 (if visitors do not leave or in case of emergency)
- Conduct thorough regular and exit walk throughs of the buildings, reporting anything out of the ordinary, and ensuring doors are all locked, and the areas are secure
- Complete detailed reports and shift logs upon completion of every shift
- Empower individuals to maintain independent living situations in a cluster housing model
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent. Preference will be given to candidates with post-secondary education in the area(s) of disability services, addictions, mental health, and related education.
- Minimum 1 year of experience working with people with intellectual disabilities is required
- Experience working with people with mental health barriers preferred
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License with the ability to operate a vehicle unsupervised
- Effective problem-solving ability & strong communication skills
- The ability to work independently and as a part of a team
- First Aid/CPR and NVCI training will be provided.
The salary range for this 70-hour bi-weekly position is $17.11 to $23.10 per hour, dependent upon education and/or experience. A full benefits package (which includes Health, Dental, and Long Term Disability Benefits) is provided to regular, full-time employees.
The successful candidate will be subject to Criminal Record and Adult/Child Abuse Registry Checks; and must supply a current driver’s abstract when a Driver’s License is required.
