The Opportunity

Reporting to the Director of Communications, the Communications Assistant will support the development and implementation of comprehensive marketing and communications plans and initiatives that support the School’s overall strategic plans and the Advancement Office’s departmental goals.

Operational Effectiveness

  • Communications 90%

    • Supports the marketing and communications team in increasing the school’s visibility through storytelling, promotional content and materials, social media, brochures, e-newsletters, website blogs, etc.
    • Assists in the development and execution of a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy.
    • Assists in developing evaluation and measurement tools regarding communication activities.
    • Monitor the school’s social media presence and engage in online community relations.
    • Identify and resolve any issues with promotional content in a timely and professional manner.
    • Supports with gathering and editing content, photos, and video materials for school wide communications.
    • Assists in the preparation and distribution of all forms of communication to the parent and alumni communities.
    • Researches and writes stories for the School’s e-newsletter, print publications and online social media channels.
    • Works with various internal staff and faculty to understand their messaging needs for communications and publications, helps them to position their message within the school community and, where appropriate, the community at large.
    • Proofreads, edits and formats communications regularly.

    • Assists in planning events as required and attend if requested.
    • Assists with School photography as required.

Qualifications/Skills/Experience

  • Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in the design and execution of marketing, communications, and public relations activities.
  • Must have excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Possess a solid understanding of effective marketing and communication techniques.
  • Strong creative, strategic, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Experience with training and developing a team in the communications area.
  • Computer literacy in word processing, page layout, and online applications.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to deal with internal and external audiences.
  • Strong time-management with the ability to manage multiple projects at a time.
  • Valid BC driver’s license and flexibility to travel locally and work flexible hours when required.
