New Directions is a social service agency offering a wide range of resources and services that foster people’s hopes and dreams in their communities.
Adult Family Supports & Outreach Services (AFS) is one of the many services offered by New Directions. AFS provides services for adults living in various settings including the family home, transitional or long-term care facilities. The Community Resource Worker is part of a team responsible for assisting individuals with their personal and day-to-day living needs in their homes and in the community. The role of the Community Resource Worker is to create positive working relationships with those being supported while responding to their unique needs, including physical, intellectual, spiritual and emotional.
Responsibilities Include:
- Remaining patient and calm in stressful situations
- Active and willing to participate in physical activities
- Access to a reliable vehicle to transport to various locations in the community
- Self-motivated to work independently in the community while collaborating with the larger team
- Excellent communication with Case Managers and supervisors
- Grocery shopping
- Budgeting
- Assisting with access to medical care
- Creative problem-solving skills
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent. Preference will be given to candidates with post-secondary education in the area(s) of disability services, addictions, mental health, or other social service-related education
- Experience working with people with intellectual disabilities
- Based on the specific needs of the supported individual and their support plan, the ideal male candidate for this position will speak fluently in Somali
- Ability to work 2, 3-hour shifts per week (Monday to Friday)
- Valid First Aid/CPR
- Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) Training is considered an asset. Willing to obtain if certification is not valid
- Knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorder would be an asset
- Effective problem-solving ability & strong communication skills
- The ability to work independently and as a part of a team
- A valid Class 5 driver’s license with access to a vehicle
- Providing assistance with personal care routines, is a requirement from time to time
The salary for all casual positions is $17.11 per hour, with increases as per policy. The successful candidate will be available for approximately 6 hours per week.
The successful candidate will be subject to Criminal Record Check, Adult/Child Abuse Registry and Prior Contact Check and must supply a current driver’s abstract.
