In addition to direct repair and maintenance responsibilities, this role includes helping to design and deliver tenant education workshops and providing hands-on support to tenants and homeowners on basic repairs. These workshops reflect the Collective’s vision to empower Tsawwassen Members as tenants and future homeowners, strengthening their home maintenance skills and confidence in caring for their homes.

  • Respond to emergency maintenance requests during work hours and while on call (rotating schedule).
  • Build positive, respectful relationships with tenants and resolve concerns promptly.
  • Help develop and deliver tenant education workshops on basic household repairs, seasonal maintenance, and home safety (e.g., breaker resets, unclogging drains, appliance troubleshooting).
  • Provide one-to-one hands-on support to tenants and homeowners for minor fixes, fostering independence and reducing unnecessary maintenance calls.
  • Maintain detailed maintenance records, logs, and tool/supply inventories.
  • Coordinate and supervise external contractors and service vendors.
  • Lead seasonal and preventative maintenance planning and scheduling.
  • Support move-in/move-out inspections and turnover repairs in collaboration with the property management team.
  • Maintain building systems and fire safety equipment in accordance with regulatory compliance.
  • Assist in the development of maintenance procedures, policies, and systems.
  • Contribute to team coordination and, as the organization grows, mentor new maintenance staff.

  • 3–5+ years of experience in building or property maintenance or facilities management.
  • Extensive hands-on knowledge of residential systems: electrical, plumbing, carpentry, mechanical, and HVAC.
  • Experience working independently and responding to emergencies with sound judgement.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, especially with tenants and vulnerable populations.
  • Experience delivering workshops, training, or community education is an asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Outlook and Excel); familiarity with digital maintenance tools is an asset.
  • Valid BC Class 5 driver’s license.
