Electronic Security Systems Administrator (ESSA), West Africa - Mali


The Electronic Security Systems Administrator (ESSA), West Africa – Mali is responsible for securing IT systems for the Fekola Gold Mine Site. 

Location and Reporting Structure

This position will be based at B2Gold’s Fekola Mine in Mali, Africa on a rotation schedule. The position will direct the Fekola Security Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • The ESSA will perform systems administration duties of the physical access control systems, the Closed-Circuit Video Surveillance (CCTV) systems and the alarm systems for the organisation;
  • The ESSA will independently operate, inspect, diagnose, and perform repairs to system problems and be capable of taking immediate actions to resolve malfunctions on the organisation’s existing surveillance, physical access control systems and ancillary electronic security control systems;
  • The ESSA will provide maintenance and operation duties on the system components as described in systems commercial technical orders and manuals, security policies and guidelines, and applicable customer operating instructions;
  • The ESSA will install, upgrade, maintain, configure, program software, and maintain application server hardware supporting the organization and must implement necessary patches, hotfixes, service packs, cumulative updates, and upgrades to meet security compliance and system integrity;
  • The ESSA will maintain scripts used for reporting, monitoring and analysis and must regularly monitor and prepare reports for systems integrity through reporting and analysis. Ensures appropriate data is collected and retained for audit and investigative purposes;
  • The ESSA will develop and document technical procedures and processes applicable to the physical access control systems, video surveillance systems as well as the related physical electronic security systems and ancillary communications systems;
  • Monitor video surveillance and access control systems to prevent unauthorized access to designed location;
  • Take a lead role in ensuring documentation is kept current and accurately;
  • Provide metrics and reports to management as needed perform quarterly and annual account audit requirements as assigned;
  • Prepare project tenders, and electronic security system budgets;
  • Identify risk areas, recommends preventive solutions, and implements corrective action plans as appropriate to ensure safety of employees and protection of company assets;
  • Assist with training junior level staff and contingent workers as needed to ensure consistency in processes;
  • Develop Key Performance Indicators for reporting, evaluation, and performance measurement;
  • Provide security support for all after hour activities within designated location
  • Contribute ideas and recommendations to strategic plans;
  • Maintain safe and healthy work environment by following and enforcing company standards and procedures;
  • Maintain constructive and effective working relationships with contractors.


  • An undergraduate degree, diploma or related certification in security risk management, computer information security or formal military systems security training, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience;
  • 5 Years’ experience in managing, installing, programming, and maintaining electronic security systems;
  • Certifications in CompTIA A+ and N+;
  • Experience in System design, integration, and implementation;
  • Experience in managing, installing, programming, and maintaining electronic security systems;
  • Managing project installations and technical teams;
  • Knowledge in integration of security hardware & software;
  • Experience in developing electronic security management plans including inspection and maintenance plans;
  • Advanced programming of Access Control, IP Surveillance & Intruder Detection systems;
  • Knowledge with Gallagher Access Engineer;
  • Knowledge with Avigilon product line; ACC 7 Certification; Avigilon Advanced Networking; Avigilon Advanced Server Management ACC and Server Management Hardware;
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision, manage multi-tasking and multiple demands;
  • Strong English written, verbal and presentation skills, required; and
  • Fluency in English and French considered an asset;
  • Able to travel occasionally to other job sites.
