Fortis Mining, Engineering & Manufacturing is currently recruiting for the position of Electrician Apprentice (Commercial/Industrial). The Electrician Apprentice’s primary responsibilities are varied and include assisting Electrician Journeypersons with tasks, learning and applying trade skills and concepts, and maintain organization of materials and products. Responsibilities will include performing work on both client and company electrical systems and equipment while upholding strict safety and quality standards.
Fortis is looking to add Apprentices or Journeypersons to the team who are dedicated to quality workmanship and eager to grow their skills. Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test will be required as a condition of employment.

APPRENTICE DUTIES
- Maintain organization of material and products
- Learn and apply new trade skills and concepts in a working environment
- Work with hand and power tools
- Apply electrical theory
- Safe use of heavy equipment
- Assist Journeypersons in all electrical tasks
- Follow procedures and work instructions provided by Journeypersons
- Receive and complete assigned task list with minimal supervision
- Initiative to complete instructions as provided and seek additional work if necessary
- Continuous learning and application of all journeyperson-related responsibilities and duties through all stages of apprenticeship program
JOURNEYPERSON DUTIES
Installation of Electrical Systems and Components
- Perform wiring and circuit distribution for commercial and industrial buildings/facilities
- Install various electrical devices
- Panel boards, distribution centers, and load centers
- Transformers, filters, and neutral grounding resistors (NGRs)
- Mechanical equipment such as exhaust fans, louvers, and pumps
- Install electrical infrastructure
- Conduit, cable tray, wireways, and trenches
- Armored cable and bussing
- Size and install motors and motor controls
- Perform high-voltage cable installation, termination, and splicing
Testing, Troubleshooting, and Repair of Electrical Systems and Equipment
- Test the condition of electrical material and equipment
- Test the insulation of electrical conductors (both medium and high voltage)
- Commercial building infrastructure power
- Mechanical control of make up air systems (MUAs) and heat recovery ventilators (HRVs)
- Line and control power for fabrication shop equipment such as band saws, drill presses, welders, and plasma cutters
Maintenance and Monitoring of Equipment
- Provide on-site maintenance and troubleshooting of electrical equipment to prevent project delays
- Implement preventative maintenance programs
- Source, select, and order replacement materials and parts for equipment
Interpret Blueprints, Manuals, Schematics, and Procedures
- Follow blueprint plans at all project stages, including architectural, mechanical, and one-line diagrams
- Adhere to internal and client working procedures
General Duties
- Collaborate with other trades and companies on larger, more complex equipment and systems
- Perform calculations and risk assessments
- Perform other duties as required
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS
- Electrical Apprentice (interested in pursuing apprenticeship or currently registered with the appropriate provincial authority) or Licensed Red Seal Electrician
- Experience with any mechanical or carpentry capacity is considered an asset
- Ability to safely lift heavy tools, equipment, and parts up to 50 lbs
- Ability to work overhead and in awkward positions
- Willingness to work at heights, outdoors, and underground (mine sites)
- Must possess valid driver’s license
- Strong math skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
- Excellent time-management skills; ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
- Ability to handle competing priorities simultaneously
- Maintain a positive and professional attitude, set a high standard, and convey professionalism at all times
