The Fabrication Project Manager is responsible for the overall management of fabrication (and related) projects, including schedule, progress reporting, forecasting future work, quality management, contract management, and estimating support. As part of the Project Management & Fabrication Department, the Project Manager will also participate in cost reporting, review of subcontracts and vendor invoices, scope/change management, and creation of client billings. The Fabrication Project Manager must work closely with Operations, Procurement, Engineering and Project Management to ensure information is communicated between all groups.
The Fabrication Project Manager is responsible for all information related to the total project life cycle, and ensure all costs are communicated effectively to the project owners and to the client. Responsible for preparing and managing cost and execution of various fabrication projects, the ideal candidate has extensive professional experience in project management for custom steel manufacturing projects, in particular: structural steel, pressure piping, vessels, and tanks.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and maintain cost estimates in alignment with project management strategies and schedules to support engineering, procurement, and construction phases of projects
- Prepare estimate plans, presentations, and documents, and conduct audits and reviews with the Production Manager, Project Managers, Superintendents and clients
- Prepare capital and operating cost estimates to support studies ranging from order of magnitude to detailed feasibility for fabrication projects
- Develop and maintain a cost information database and library for the Fabrication Department
- Maintain a historical database for the close out of project including lessons learned documentation and financial post-mortems
- Appreciate and understand the client’s needs in order to provide quality services and earn additional business through proactive relationship building and quality deliverables
- Develop project schedules and identify activities necessary to produce products and services during project execution
- Ensure cost, schedule, and reporting comply with client contracts
- Translate general work requirements into a prioritized plan for individual tasks and assignments
- Coordinate work with other project groups to identify needs, requirements, interfaces, and work direction
- Communicate delivery requirements of major equipment and materials to procurement
- Review and adjust specific work activities and task schedules to meet established work schedules
- Ensure output of resources is completed on time, on budget, and exceeding quality standards. This includes integrating schedules and cost estimates to produce realistic productivity factors, equipment, and labour costs
- Establish professional and commendable working relationships with stakeholders, including clients, engineering staff, discipline leads, client representatives, and department colleagues
- Identify needs and deficiencies in the plan/schedule and communicate these to the appropriate persons
- Work with Project Managers and Supervisors to overcome work challenges
- Resolve, or if unable to resolve, report any scheduling conflicts with the appropriate persons
- Report project progress regarding cost and schedule on daily, weekly, and monthly basis
- Perform monthly forecasts including costs, commitments, change management, cost variance and schedule
- Develop, maintain, and improve all processes, procedures, templates, and tools related to estimate planning, development, and project management
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
- Graduate degree or a technical diploma in engineering or engineering technology combined with equivalent work experience would be an asset
- Experience in small to large scale custom steel manufacturing projects with in-depth knowledge of structural, vessels, tanks, and piping
- Capable of reading structural drawings
- Knowledgeable in the estimate risk analysis process
- Experience with estimating packages such as Global Shop would be considered an asset
- Experience in Planning/Scheduling
- Familiarity with scheduling software (such as MS Project and Primavera) will be considered an added expertise
- Project Management Professional (PMP®) Certification would be an asset
- Knowledge of basic accounting
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
- Strong time-management skills; ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
- Ability to manage multiple project deliverables and deadlines
- Ability to work in a team setting and communicate clearly
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and problem-solve as required
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
