Fortis Mining Engineering & Manufacturing is currently recruiting a Senior Engineering Technologist. The Senior Engineering Technologist provides technical support and services to the engineering team. Working with the engineering division, mining division, lifelines division and others, the Senior Engineering Technologist collaborates on, assists with, and designs mechanical components and equipment. This position will also provide oversite, training, and guidance to junior technologists and contracted technologists as required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare engineering designs, drawings and related technical information, including drafting and 3D modeling using Solid Works and AutoCAD
- Use Document Management System (DMS) to manage drawing releases and version control
- Manage and organize drawing folder
- All drawings are properly stored
- Proper version number on drawings are released both internally and externally
- Assist Engineering Manager with the design and development of components
- Prepare drawings and specifications
- Liaise with personnel from other divisions to gather additional information, as required
- Collaborate with all parties to troubleshoot, resolve issues, and discuss alternative designs
- Manage time proactively to ensure efficient use of time billed to projects
- Accountable for time posted to projects and may be requested to provide documentation to support hours worked
- Organize files and work area efficiently
- Fill out projects time sheet daily and accurately
- Conduct quality control measures on jobs
- Double check drawings to ensure they are complete and ready to manufacture
- Ensure complete notes with adequate explanation included
- Build a library of knowledge that can be accessed for future reference on similar jobs
- Double check the quantities of parts and components on the Bill of Materials
- Examine drafting and design projects and identify potential solutions
- Use of visualization and creativity
- Assess possible future requirements
- Use of common materials that are readily available
- Follow industry-accepted practices for various aspects of the project such as steel strengths, welding procedures, and other practices as identified
- Oversee performance and provide training and mentorship to other Engineering Technologists
- Monitor ongoing work providing constructive feedback as projects are completed
- Review peers’ work to ensure Fortis design and drafting standards are followed
- Ensure ISO 9000 requirements and procedures are followed and documented
- Communicate with the Engineering Manager regularly to discuss team performance, skill set development, and capabilities
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
- Completion of a two-year college program in Engineering Technology
- Minimum of four (4) years’ work experience as an Engineering Technologist
- Minimum eight (8) years of mechanical/structural engineering design experience would be beneficial but not required
- Knowledge of welding, machining and manufacturing processes
- Familiarity with standard concepts, practices and procedures with the mining and fabrication industry
- Ability to use AutoCAD, Solid Works, and other design software, as required
- Ability to train and mentor junior and intermediate Engineering Technologists
- Any safety-related training and certificates would be beneficial
- Have or willing to obtain certification in TPS (Technology Professionals Saskatchewan)
- Must possess creativity in design and development of components and systems
- Strong leadership and critical thinking skills
- Ability to promote a positive, team-orientated environment
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to communicate clearly, both written and verbal
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet critical deadlines
- Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities; flexible and adaptable to changing demands
