Engineering Technologist

Fortis Mining Engineering & Manufacturing is currently recruiting for an Engineering Technologist. The Engineering Technologist provides technical support and services to the engineering team. Working with the engineering division, mining division, lifelines division, and others, the technologist collaborates on, assists with, and designs mechanical components and equipment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare engineering designs, drawings, and related technical information including drafting and 3D modeling using Solid Works and AutoCAD
  • Assist with conducting mechanical tests and analysis of components and equipment
  • Assist in design of moulds, tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures for use in manufacturing processes
  • Assist in preparing costs and materials estimates and contact vendors to research available materials
  • Conduct site visits, where necessary, to gather information required for preparing a satisfactory design
  • Use Document Management Systems (DMS) to manage drawing releases, and version control
  • Assist with the design and development of components, under the direction of Engineering Manager
    • Preparing drawings and specifications
    • Liaise with personnel from other divisions to gather additional information, as required
    • Collaborate with all parties to troubleshoot, resolve issues, and discuss alternative designs
  • Proactively manage work to ensure efficient use of time billed to projects
  • Conduct quality control measures on jobs
  • Apply critical thinking/common-sense techniques when drafting and designing to identify possible solutions for projects

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of a two-year college program in Engineering Technology or equivalent experience and education
  • Mechanical/structural engineering experience would be beneficial but not required
  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices and procedures with the mining and height safety fields
  • Any safety-related training and certificates would be beneficial
  • Work towards and obtain certification in TPS (Technology Professionals Saskatchewan)
