Located in the south-central region of B.C., the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) covers an area over 10,400 km and is renowned for its orchards, vineyards and golf courses, as well as its widely varied landscape including deserts, mountains and valleys, pristine lakes and outdoor recreational opportunities.
The RDOS is currently recruiting for a Utilities Foreman (Wastewater) to coordinate a team of technical and support staff and oversees either wastewater operations. The incumbent acts in the Chief Operator capacity for wastewater or for water as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Level IV EOCP Municipal Wastewater Treatment Certificate and Level I Wastewater Collection Certificate.
- A minimum of five (5) years’ experience overseeing a wastewater treatment plant and wastewater collection system.
- Biological Nutrient Removal (BNR) Wastewater Treatment Plant experience.
- Knowledge of laboratory procedures, electrical and instrumentation is considered an asset.
- A minimum two (2) years of supervisory experience.
- Chlorine Handling certificate.
- Member of BC Water/Wastewater Association (BCWWA).
- Graduate of the Water Engineering Technology Diploma Program from a recognized education institution would be an asset.
- Demonstrated computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, and Excel).
- Certificate of Training for Transport of Dangerous Goods would be considered an asset.
- Knowledge of the practices and techniques of maintenance of water and/or wastewater systems and the materials, tools and equipment used in engineering operations.
- Knowledge of relevant policies, bylaws, procedures, safety methods and occupational hazards in the water and/or wastewater operations and maintenance environment.
- Ability to communicate in a courteous and tactful manner.
- Ability to work on a number of concurrent tasks with deadline pressures.
- Ability to plan, schedule, assign, and supervise staff.
- Ability to read blueprints and plans and prepare sketches.
This regular, full-time position is included in the BCGEU bargaining unit. The hourly wage for the position is paygrade 9, $46.86 January-June ($47.33 July-December) and is eligible to participate in the flexible scheduling initiative.
