Located in the south-central region of B.C., the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) covers an area over 10,400 km2 and is renowned for its orchards, vineyards and golf courses, as well as its widely varied landscape including deserts, mountains and valleys, pristine lakes and outdoor recreational opportunities.
The RDOS is currently recruiting for a temporary, full-time Human Resources/Occupational Health & Safety Advisor to join the Human Resources team. This exempt, full-time position is focused primarily on the Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) Program while providing human resources support in a unionized environment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Extensive knowledge of labour relations principles and practices, especially in a unionized setting.
- Extensive knowledge of occupational health and safety programs and best practices.
- Strong working knowledge of the Employment Standards Act, the BC Human Rights Code, the Workers Compensation Act, Occupational Health and Safety Regulations and other applicable legislation.
- Strong team building skills with the ability to develop effective and collaborative working relationships.
- Ability to exercise tact, discretion, and sound judgment while dealing with sensitive and confidential matters.
- Exceptional verbal communication and conflict resolution skills to meet varying needs of internal and external customers and to mitigate and resolve conflicts when they arise.
- Strong written communication skills with the ability to produce and present a variety of material for a diverse audience.
- Experienced in conducting interviews and investigations.
- Strong organizational, analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite and other software used in Regional District operations.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree in human resources management or occupational health and safety from an accredited educational institution. Other accredited degree programs may be considered.
- Professional designation in human resources (CPHR) or occupational health and safety (CRST or CRSP) is preferred.
- Minimum of three (3) years of related and progressive experience preferably in a local and/or regional government setting.
- Ability to pass and maintain a criminal record check.
- Valid BC Driver’s Licence.
The RDOS is seeking applicants for this exciting opportunity to work collaboratively with a great team of professionals. The compensation package includes a salary range of $79,507.38 to $92,170.84, an attractive benefits plan and an opportunity to participate in the four-day week schedule that is currently in place. The term of this temporary, full-time role is expected to conclude in February 2026.
