Located in the south-central region of B.C., the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) covers an area over 10,400 km2 and is renowned for its orchards, vineyards and golf courses, as well as its widely varied landscape including deserts, mountains and valleys, pristine lakes and outdoor recreational opportunities.
The RDOS is currently recruiting for a temporary, full-time Utilities Student to join the Utilities team. The Utilities Student is responsible for assisting with the water and wastewater maintenance activities, organizing available service connection data, performing on-site audits of water and wastewater systems, locating and recording valves, hydrants, piping and manholes, as well as assisting with asset management data collection. To be eligible as a student, candidates must be attending school, college, or university, have just completed studies or intend to return to school, college, or university in the subsequent academic year.
Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:
- Completion of 1st year in a Water Engineering Technology program or related field.
- Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions.
- Experience working with the public and providing customer service.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently with limited supervision.
- Ability to perform the duties of the position and work indoors in an office setting or outdoors, possibly in extreme weather conditions.
- Ability to communicate in a courteous and tactful manner.
- Demonstrated computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, and Excel).
- Valid First Aid Certificate (OFA Level 1) or an ability and willingness to obtain one.
- Valid BC Driver’s Licence.
This temporary, full-time (May to August) position is included in the BCGEU bargaining unit. The hourly wage for the position is $23.00 plus 15% in lieu of benefits (total hourly wage is $26.45).
