Village of Keremeos - Chief Financial Officer (Part-Time)

The Village of Keremeos is seeking a skilled Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to provide overall management of the financial operations of the municipality to ensure that the policies, programs and other directions of council are implemented. The CFO will support the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), mayor and council in the formulation of its strategic direction for the future. 

 Keremeos is home to 1,608 residents (2021 census) including an active labour force, social and health services, infrastructure and recreational assets providing for a close community with a strong base for sustained growth. 

Keremeos’ housing remains affordable, and the Village contains schools, parks, a medical clinic and emergency service, care facilities, a grocery store, drug store and pharmacy, restaurants, pub, and several fresh fruit and vegetable stands. Year-round recreation is nearby with walking, hiking and biking trails, skiing, hunting, fishing, and tubing on the beautiful Similkameen River that follows the southern perimeter of the Village. 

Reporting to the CAO, the CFO coordinates and administers all financial management, investment, control, reporting and purchasing functions of the Village. Preference will be given to candidates who are able to demonstrate strong skills in strategic financial planning and management, using a collaborative style to balance competing demands. Exhibiting self-motivation with proven experience in exercising tact, discretion and sound judgment while dealing with sensitive issues in a political environment, the CFO is analytical while communicating and interacting with a variety of stakeholders. 

The ideal candidate will have:
 

  • Five (5) years of progressive financial accounting experience in a local government setting
  • Post-secondary degree in administration, finance, public administration or related field
  • Professional accounting designation in good standing with the Chartered Professional Accountants Canada
  • Budgeting experience and working knowledge of tangible capital asset management
  • Ability to work with MAIS software 
  • Strong understanding of related requirements of the Community Charter, Local Government Act and Public Sector Accounting Standards
