About the Opportunity

Due to an exciting period of growth, we have an opportunity for a Field Technician to join our team on a full-time rotational basis, in BC or Alberta.

The role of Field Technician is a vital aspect in the day to day operations of CampTek.  The Help Desk Technician has four main roles:

  • Responsible for onsite installation of cabling and hardware for all CampTek services under direction of the Operations Team.
  • Responsible for ensuring onsite scopes of work are completed in a timely fashion and fit in with CampTek standards (cleanliness, standardization, etc). Including updating the Operations Team/Manager as to each sites progress.
  • Fielding Support Calls when at Client sites, and generating tickets/requests based on these issues. Ensuring the requests are followed up on and completed in a timely manner.
  • Other duties as assigned by Management.

These result in a highly diverse range of duties for the Field Technicians, and are required to ensure they are fulfilled in a timely, co-operative and professional manner.

We interact frequently with customers via technical support calls and emails, service provisioning with our onsite technicians, and sales teams, so it's important that we are clear and concise in our communications. We also work very closely with the Operations team and as such need to develop a good all-round understanding of systems and networks. Diligence and attention to detail are also key skills along with an ability to multi-task and prioritize work appropriately.

Importantly, Field Technicians must have a solid understanding of CampTek's products and processes; they must be eager and quick to learn, be clear communicators and must be able to use their initiative to tackle a broad range of problems.

Duties and Responsibilities:

We are seeking a highly experienced individual with a proven track record in Category 5e and Category 6 Structured Wiring installations with 3-5 years experience in structured cabling. Experience with terminating and troubleshooting fiber optic cable also an asset. Responsible for installing and troubleshooting voice, data and Wireless networks, you have the ability and experience to lead projects and possess excellent customer relation and organizational skills. This position offers training and advancement opportunities.

Field Technician Duties:

  • Install Structured Cabling (Coax, Cat5e/6, fiber)
  • Install Structured Cabling Support Systems
  • Terminate Structured Cabling at the end user location
  • Terminate Structured Cabling at the Communication Room location
  • Test Structured Cabling with results and download to the test station i.e. Fluke
  • Label properly all the components of a Structured Cabling infrastructure
  • Produce As built documents and accurate Closing Project Documents
  • Troubleshoot Cabling Problems
  • Evaluate Equipment and Hardware requirements for projects and work orders
  • Provide on the job training when required
  • Other duties as assigned by Management

Specified Requirements:

  • Installation of Category 5e, RG 6 Coax and fiber optic cabling
  • Rack mounting equipment
  • Installation of Access Points, Set Top Boxes, Coax Splitters and such.
  • Termination of RJ-45 jacks/ends and RG6 connectors
  • Testing and troubleshooting cable

More About You

In order to qualify for this role, you must possess the following:

  • At least 3-5 years of experience in Structured Cabling/Field Technicians role
  • Must be able to work on ladders
  • Must be capable of lifting 75 pounds
  • Good driving record required
  • Must pass a drug screen
  • Must pass back ground check
  • Must have good communication skills
  • Basic Knowledge of WAN/LAN and TV Systems would be an asset.
  • Some training will be provided for those that have a mechanical aptitude, a strong work ethic and desire to learn.
  • Working hours will vary, and will involve a rotation of possibly 3 weeks in the field, and 1 week at home.
  • PPE required, including safety boots, hard hat, vests and gloves.
  • Own hand tools would be an asset, but not required
  • Participate in a 24x7 on call as required
  • Be willing to travel and assist with field work as required.

Additional items that will be a benefit to your application:

  • Experience working with Cisco Meraki Cloud Managed Devices
  • Experience in RF frequencies, including licensed and unlicensed microwave radios
  • CATV (Cable TV) Experience, including NTSC, QAM and Satellite Services
  • Experience working with IP Cameras, including AXIS, Pelco and other ONVIF devices
