Consultation Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY

The College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC has an opening for a consultation coordinator whose primary assignment will be to develop a framework for policy development, with a focus on enhanced stakeholder involvement.

This is an exciting summer position (or practicum) for an individual who has graduated from or is pursuing a master’s degree in communication, law, social policy, public health, or a related discipline, with a keen interest in public engagement and consultation in policy development.

Reporting to the director, communications and public affairs, the ideal candidate will be an analytical thinker with superior research and writing skills, and has a demonstrated ability to interview, collect and analyze data from worldwide partner agencies, document best practices, develop process maps, work plans, and mechanisms for evaluation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • conduct informant interviews
  • document partner agency processes for policy development
  • conduct an academic review of best practices for policy development and consultation methodology, specifically for regulators whose interest is serving and protecting the public
  • review technology and/or web-based platforms currently being used by partner agencies to consult with the public; provide recommendations
  • develop process maps and/or diagrams to document and streamline steps in policy development
  • write project work plans, progress reports, briefing notes, other project material as necessary
  • develop a final framework for policy development that includes a robust process for public consultation and engagement with defined evaluation mechanisms

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Required skills and qualifications include: 

  • a master’s degree in a relevant discipline (in progress or completed)
  • fluency in English language (spoken and written)
  • thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, techniques, methods and procedures applicable to research and policy development
  • solid understanding of IAP2 principles/core values
  • strong research and analysis/evaluation skills
  • interview and presentation skills
  • superior business writing skills
  • strong computer/web skills
  • capable project manager
  • able to establish effective working relationships with a wide variety of internal and external contacts
  • able to self-direct work
