About the Opportunity

Scout Talent is currently working on behalf of our client, a well-established resort-like facility in the hospitality industry, to find an Executive Chef to join their team on a full-time basis in Columbus, Ohio. The ability to work evenings, weekends and flexible hours is required.

As our new Executive Chef, your position is extremely important, not only for our Returning Guests, but in facilitation of the critical success factors for the entire culinary operation. This role requires a visionary leader with the personal and professional skill sets required by a multipronged, multi-platform, forward-thinking food service operation. Success in the position starts with a genuine passion for cooking, effective communication, and a simultaneous love for team success merged in producing incredible cuisine.

Your essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: 

  • Hiring, supervising, training and developing kitchen personnel.
  • Producing all food and pastry for dining spaces, meal delivery operation, catering functions, & pool operations (along with sous chef team).
  • Leading a team of sous chefs in menu development & production development.
  • Responsible for food purchasing, product specifications, standardized recipes and the safe storage, sanitation, and security of product.
  • Maintaining a team approach to all that extends beyond culinary into other departments.
  • Working as part of a team with front-of-the-house and catering staff.
  • Communicating a compelling and consistent vision for the culinary operation.
  • Providing guests with the favorite menu items and interjecting creative and fresh ideas and products.
  • Maintaining and advancing systems to ensure the food comes out of each kitchen with great efficiency and on a timely basis, so guest experiences are consistently excellent.
  • Enthusiastically interacting with staff members and Returning Guests, while leading with honor and respect.
  • Budgeting and planning effectively, monitoring actual financial results, and taking corrective action as necessary to ensure financial goals are met.
  • Preparing reports, arranging employee schedules and cost menus, and other administrative duties.
  • Implementing and maintaining cleaning and sanitation schedule consistent with Serve-Safe guidelines.
  • Acting as the PIC for all regulated county health inspections.

Ideal Attributes

In order to qualify for this role, you will need a certification and/or college degree in Culinary Arts (CEC Certification is preferred), as well as 6 to 10 years of experience as a Chef or Kitchen Manager with a proven track record of growth. In addition, 5 years of supervisory and management experience, including hiring staff, coaching, performance management of daily operations, discipline and counselling, is required. You must also be certified in ServSafe Food Services, and have current certification from the American Culinary Federation or other hospitality association.

You are able to handle multiple priorities, delegate assignments to appropriate individuals, and have competent organizational and time management skills. You possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, and demonstrate sound judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Proficiency in computer skills, Microsoft Office (Windows, Outlook, Excel), inventory/recipe build software, and the ability to learn new applications is also needed. Above all, you must have a genuine passion for the profession coupled with high integrity, maturity, and tactfulness.
