New Directions is a social service agency offering a wide range of resources and services that foster people’s hopes and dreams in their communities.
Training Opportunities for Youth (TOFY) is one of the many services offered by New Directions. TOFY trains and employs youth from the community who face barriers to employment. Our goal is to provide the training and experience needed to be successful in obtaining meaningful employment. We are currently seeking a Educational Assistant to join our team.
Responsibilities include:
- Create a positive and safe working environment for the youth attending.
- Prepares and learns a variety of job skills that they will teach to youth.
- Develops positive relationships with youth, while maintaining professional boundaries.
- Coaches students 1-1 or in a group while completing various assigned job skills
- Assists with the delivery of lessons regarding kitchen math and trades math.
- Assists with Safe Food Handlers Certificate training.
- Uses appropriate behavior management strategies to support appropriate employment behaviors.
- Ensures that kitchen space is compliant with Manitoba Health Regulations and Certifications at all times.
- Able to engage youth in the on-going learning and development of employability skills.
- Able to meet order and delivery deadlines.
- Delivers orders to customers, demonstrating, and modelling good customer service skills.
What You Will Bring;
- Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s license and access to a vehicle is considered an asset.
- An energetic, creative, and friendly attitude.
- Demonstrated coaching and facilitation skills, with the ability to motivate others.
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to lift 50lbs and work in a variety of settings.
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
- Knowledge, awareness, and sensitivity to Indigenous cultures and traditions.
- Strong background working with youth would be considered an asset.

The salary range for this term 17.5-hour weekly position is $18.31 to $24.72 per hour, dependent upon education and/or experience. This is a 6-month term position.
The successful candidate will be subject to Criminal Record and Adult/Child Abuse, and Prior Contact Registry Checks.
