About the Opportunity
Reporting to the Director of Facilities & Infrastructure, the Health & Safety and Emergency Management Coordinator supports ʔaq̓am in maintaining a safe, healthy, and resilient community. This position leads the development, coordination, and implementation of occupational health and safety programs and emergency preparedness initiatives across all ʔaq̓am departments and facilities. The role ensures compliance with WorkSafeBC and other regulatory requirements, builds staff capacity, and integrates Indigenous ways of knowing and community values into all safety and emergency management practices, in alignment with Ka Kniⱡwitiyaⱡa – Our Thinking.
This is a term position
Your key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Develop, implement, and maintain ʔaq̓am’s Health & Safety Program, including policies, safe work procedures, training, and inspections.
Lead the implementation and ongoing improvement of ʔaq̓am’s Emergency Management Plan. - Support all departments in meeting WorkSafeBC standards and internal OHS requirements.
- Coordinate community emergency preparedness activities, including drills, tabletop exercises, and public education.
- Work collaboratively with Elders, staff, and community members to incorporate traditional knowledge and land-based safety teachings.
- Prepare regular reports, safety statistics, and updates for the Director of Facilities & Infrastructure and senior leadership.

More About You
In order to qualify for the Health, Safety, and Emergency Management Coordinator role, you must have a minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar role, and a diploma or certificate in Occupational Health and Safety, Emergency Management, or a related field. Proof of a clear criminal record including vulnerable sector check. Provision of a clean driver's abstract and a Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
Salary will commensurate with experience from a range ($60,000-65,000) and includes a favorable benefits package and pension plan.
Preference will be given to candidates of Ktunaxa or other Indigenous ancestry and ʔaq̓am encourages applicants to self-identify within your application.
