About the Opportunity

The aʔkiⱡ kansquwik Sina: Working with Beavers to Build Climate Resilience in Cherry Creek” Project Manager is seeking a Watershed Engagement Liaison.  This role will be responsible for fostering connections and ensuring cultural understanding between the community of ʔaq̓am and other partners and organization involved in the Watershed Sina project.  The Watershed Engagement Liaison will offer advice and guidance on collaborating with Indigenous communities, organize and facilitate community engagement events, gather Traditional Knowledge, serve as a liaison with other groups and organizations and ensure cultural oversight throughout the project.  

 

Overview:

The ʔakiⱡ kansquwik Sina: Working with Beavers to Build Climate Resilience in Cherry Creek”  vision is being developed to increase our collective knowledge of the current health of Sina/beaver wetlands within the Cherry/Mather Creek watershed and begin to build the capacity and expertise needed to develop and implement actions that will maximize Sina populations across Ktunaxa traditional territory in future.

 

The Watershed Engagement Liaison will work alongside the Sina Engagement Coordinator to create communication and outreach strategies that foster respectful community engagement and cultural exchanges while promoting water conservation initiatives that support species like Sina/Beavers, which contribute to the creation of healthy wetland habitats in Watersheds.  The Watershed Engagement Liaison will be collecting, maintaining and sharing traditional Ktunaxa knowledge through talking with Elders, Knowledge Holders, and community members, and then sharing that knowledge and information with the community and the The aʔkiⱡ kansquwik Sina: Working with Beavers to Build Climate Resilience in Cherry Creek” team.

Key responsibilities and requirements include but are not limited to: 

  • Willingness to interview and speak with Ktunaxa Elders, Knowledge Holders and Community members through respectful processes
  • Comfortable with speaking to other groups and organizations.
  • Proficient computer skills for; data entry, PowerPoint or Google Presentations, creating posters and advertising materials, emailing and corresponding with Sina project team and other groups and organizations.
  • Ability to verbally present materials to others as well as create and facilitate community gatherings and engagement sessions
  • Self-directed and willingness to learn
  • A valid Class 5 Drivers License, clear vulnerable sector check

Duration of the position is from May 2025 until November 2025 - Hourly wage rate of $25/hour - 21 hours per week.
