ʔaq̓am is hiring an Engagement Coordinator to support the ʔaq̓am Own Source Revenue (OSR) Committee in the development of the OSR Strategy and Policy. ʔaq̓am may consider a contractor/term employee for this work.
Purpose of Position
The Engagement Coordinator plays an essential role in supporting the work of the OSR Committee by fostering and enhancing engagement with ʔaq̓amnik. This position supports the OSR Committee to achieve their work plan through engagement activities that will help inform the draft OSR policy and strategy. Engagement methods that will range in size from large group meetings, focus/family meetings, individual interviews, and surveys. This position is guided by the direction of the OSR Committee and reports to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO). This position develops and maintains relationships with ʔaq̓am staff and teams.
Specific Accountabilities
Coordination & Engagement
- Coordinates OSR Committee meetings, including agendas, minutes and action items.
- Is the holder of the work and engagement plans. This includes assisting the OSR Committee to remain on track to achieve the workplan, engagement plan, and ambitious timelines to achieve the goals and objectives.
- Coordinates and plans for engagement sessions.
- Supports OSR Committee members in the facilitation of engagement sessions.
- Attends, records, transcribes and takes verbatim notes for engagement sessions.
- Assist in the validation and verification by participants of the engagement received.
- Collects and gathers engagement input for the OSR Committee.
- Ensures alignment with “Ka Kniⱡwitiyaⱡa - Our Thinking”
Communication
- Develops communication strategy with the goal of 100 percent ʔaq̓amnik participation, regardless of where they live, in the OSR Committee’s engagement.
- Assists in developing, researching and writing content and key messages.
- Develops communication materials (i.e. plans, schedules, social media)
- Develops surveys and other engagement tools
- Drafts reporting materials (updates, summary reports, final report, etc.)
- Ensures the accurate use of Ktunaxa terms and wording with an understanding of the nuance and importance of language.
Administration
- Maintains strict confidentiality.
- Verbatim note taking.
- Minutes.
- Engage with ʔaq̓amnik to book and schedule engagement sessions.
- Monitors and tracks engagement outcomes and lessons learned.
- Drafts reports and correspondence as required.
- Manages inputs and updates for the OSR Committee workplan.
- Collects and tracks engagement participation and input.
- Provides administrative support to the OSR Committee.
Working Conditions
- Blend of work in community and within the ʔaq̓am Office.
- One-year term, full-time position. This position will work 35 hours per week. Typical hours will be Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm; however, work hours may vary as engagement sessions may take place outside of regular business hours.
- Regular off-site engagement sessions in community homes and various local locations (ie. Ktunaxa Nation Council or other local locations).
- Occasional travel to various locations, such as the Lower Mainland, where groups of Ktunaxa may come together for engagement sessions.
Experience and Education
- High school
- Business or relevant diploma is an asset.
- 5+ years’ experience working with ʔaq̓am/Ktunaxa
- Experience in community engagement
- Experience in project coordination and /or event planning
- Proficient computer skills, including all Microsoft programs
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Familiarity with ʔaq̓am and ʔaq̓amnik and “Ka Kniⱡwitiyaⱡa - Our Thinking”
- Strong understanding and familiarity of qanikitȼi.
- Ability to be neutral and build trust with ʔaq̓amnik
- Ability to get to know and connect with community.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Exceptional minutes and note-taking skills.
- Dependable, reliable and punctual.
- Ability to develop and maintain honest and respectful relationships.
- Ability to manage and organize workload and concurrent projects.
This is a one-year term employment position with a salary range of $57,000 to $69,000 annually. Pursuant to section 16 of the Canada Human Rights Act, candidate selection will be limited to Indigenous applicants. Candidates are encouraged to self-identify.
