About the Opportunity

The Director of Lands and Natural Resources is responsible for managing the implementation and administration of the ʔaq̓am Lands Department, according to natural law and qanikitȼi (ʔaq̓am values and principles) for the use and benefit of all ʔaq̓amnik’ (ʔaq̓am people present and future generations). This position manages and provides leadership to the Lands and Natural Resources department and is a member of the leadership team, playing a key role in the development and implementation of the ʔaq̓am strategic plan. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversees the day-to-day activities of the Lands and Natural Resources Department including management and direction of a team of professionals.
  • Seeks out, directs and oversees the development and submission of relevant applications/proposals for funding.  Oversees, manages, and monitors and reports on the administration of funding agreements/grants.
  • Acts as department liaison with Council, staff, contractors, government departments, private sector and other First Nation and aboriginal organizations, as authorized.
  • Develops multi-year strategic plans related to land use and resource use and development on-reserve
  • Develops and delivers community consultation relevant to Lands & Natural Resources initiatives/projects.

More About You

The successful candidate will have a minimum Bachelor Degree in Resource Management (forestry, ecology, natural resources, land use planning or other relevant field.  Experience managing a team of employees with a minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar position at a Senior Level role with proven proficiency in human resources, project, and budget management.  Proof of a clear criminal record, clean driver’s abstract and a Valid Class 5 License. 

Salary will commensurate with experience from a range of $108,735 to $144,227 per year and includes a favorable benefits package and pension plan.  Hours of work are generally Monday to Friday 8:30 to 4:30 and are to be performed onsite.  

Preference will be given to candidates of Ktunaxa or other Indigenous ancestry and ʔaq̓am encourages applicants to self-identify within your application.
