We are currently seeking a Communications & Digital Media Manager to continue to enhance the organization’s internal and external communications. Reporting to the Senior Director of Organizational & Human Resources, this Management position will work to capture the New Directions’ community in engaging content across varied platforms, and raise the organization’s profile.

 

The successful candidate will be able to balance responding to incoming communications requests with the cycle of communications deliverables that are scheduled throughout the year. The Manager will make connections across New Directions and immerse themselves in the unique culture of the organization to strengthen understanding and identify stories and events to highlight to internal and external audiences.

 

This position involves, but is not limited to:

  • Supervision and leadership of the Communications Associate and any individuals joining the team through student placement, fostering a work environment that allows for mentorship,
  • Developing an annual communications plan that incorporates a variety of communications and media avenues, and includes goals that are representative of strategic and operational priorities,
  • Working from the strategic priorities, creating both organizational and service area specific content that can be broadcast and celebrated through a variety of communications platforms, maintaining consistency while conveying New Directions’ mission and values,
  • Seeking out unique aspects of the organization that should be more broadly known, and capturing photos and videos of the New Directions’ community,
  • Closely collaborating with the Fund Development team in developing and delivering materials, co-creating a partnership with the Fund Development Manager,
  • Writing, editing and proofreading written content, and by extension speeches, including content for newsletters, publications, blogs, press releases, and key internal documents,
  • Managing all social media platforms and, along with the Communications Associate, creating content that captures the attention of the target audiences within each,
  • Cultivating and maintaining positive relationships with external stakeholders, including sector colleagues and media contacts,
  • Maintaining and updating New Directions’ website with current and relevant content,
  • Monitoring and reporting on communications, media, and social media metrics,
  • Working alongside colleagues to plan for and execute annual and special events,
  • Monitoring a modest budget, working within the guidelines and processes from the financial team.

 

Based on the communities New Directions works alongside and the values of the organization, it is vital that this successful candidate works in a way that promotes accessibility and inclusion.

 

This position is based in Winnipeg, with a hybrid work option available. Flexibility is required to attend events and respond to communications needs that may arise outside of typical office hours. Travel to other locations in southwestern Manitoba may be required for events.

 

 

The successful candidate will bring:

  • A degree or diploma in Communications, or a related field,
  • A minimum of five years of experience in a related role, with experience in a supervisory or management capacity and ideally, experience with non-profit and/or charitable organizations,
  • Strong skills in developing compelling written content and the ability edit the writing of others without removing their identifiable “voice”,
  • An understanding of a variety of internal and external communication types/avenues, and the constant evolution of such,
  • Experience developing, collaborating on, and implementing communications plans,
  • Established organizational skills and attention to detail, with an ability to work in a fast-paced environment, balance multiple operational needs, and meet deadlines,
  • Proven ability to foster effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders,
  • Awareness of design principles and accessibility within communication and content,
  • Understanding of and the ability to provide data and metrics related to the scope of work,
  • A demonstrated awareness and appreciation of diverse cultures and traditions, as well as anti-oppressive practices,
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office 365 products (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint), WordPress, design software, and digital media platforms and tools.
  • Qualifications considered assets: previous experience working in social services, knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL).

 

 

The successful candidate will be subject to Criminal Record and Adult/Child Abuse Registry Checks; and must supply a current driver’s abstract.

 

New Directions offers competitive compensation, dependent upon the education and/or experience of the successful candidate. A full benefits package (including Health and Dental Benefits, Long Term Disability, and a Pension Plan) is provided to regular full-time staff.
