Casual Direct Support Worker - ALL SERVICE AREAS

Below is a description of the service areas that are currently recruiting Casual Direct Support Workers to join their teams:

 

Child Home Services – Provides 24-hour support in community homes for children and youth with behavioral and emotional difficulties.

Shift Staffed Homes – Provides 24-hour support in community homes for adults with intellectual disabilities.

Adult Home Share - Provides opportunities for adults with intellectual disabilities and/or mental health issues to build their strengthens in community.  These positions are very similar to respite service delivery options.  Typical shift patterns are 3-4 hours in length.

Adult Day Services - Offers education, recreation, and work experience to people with intellectual disabilities and/or mental health concerns. Program hours are Monday to Friday 8am-4pm.

Family Supports – Provides individualized community and in-home support to children, youth and adults with complex support needs.  These positions are very similar to respite service delivery options.

Supported Cluster Housing - Provides independent living supports to people who may have intellectual disabilities and/or mental health issues, and who experience barriers to living independently in the community.

 

 

Qualifications and Requirements for the Role:

  • Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent
  • Post secondary education in a related field: Disability & Community Support; Community Support Worker; Addictions Counsellor; Certified Healthcare Aide (is considered an asset for some unique positions)
  • Previous experience working with individuals that have developmental disabilities, mental health issues, anxiety, self-injurious behavior/suicidal ideation, FASD, Autism, behavioral challenges and/or emotional difficulties
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.  Access to a vehicle would be considered an asset
  • Available to work a variety of shifts on weekdays, weekends and holidays
  • Able to provide three (3) references, preferably from direct supervisors
  • Comfortable assisting with personal hygiene routines and activities of daily living
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge, awareness and sensitivity to diverse cultures and traditions
  • Current First Aid/CPR is considered an asset
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training is considered an asset
  • Fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) is considered an asset
  • An understanding of people who are marginalized

 

The salary for all casual positions is $17.11 per hour to start.  Eligible increases will be applied as per policy.  There are no minimum hours guaranteed for this position.

 

The successful candidate will be subject to Criminal Record, Child/Adult Abuse Registry, and Prior Contact checks. In addition, applicants will be required to provide a copy of their Driver’s License and a current Driver’s Abstract.
