New Directions is a social service agency offering a wide range of resources and services that foster people’s hopes and dreams in their communities.
New Directions Adult Day Services requires Direct Support Workers to support individuals with intellectual disabilities in the community and facilities from Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm. Duties include providing individualized day service supports and working as part of a team to enhance a variety of skills based on individual needs as well as managing situations with individuals who may exhibit potentially aggressive behaviours. This position will be supporting individuals who may deaf or hard of hearing.
Qualifications include:
- Fluent in American Sign Language
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with people with intellectual disabilities, dual diagnosis, and/or complex support needs would be considered an asset
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with satisfactory Driver Safety Rating
- Due to the specific support needs of the individual(s), this posting is open to female applicants only
- Valid First Aid Certificate, Nonviolent Crisis Intervention, American Sign Language and a related human service certificate would be considered assets.
The salary range for a full-time, 80-hour bi-weekly Direct Support Worker is $17.11 to $23.10 per hour, dependent upon education, experience, and completion of mandatory workshops and training offered by the program. A full benefits package (including Health and Dental Benefits, Long Term Disability, and a Pension Plan) is provided to regular full-time staff.
The successful candidate will be subject to Criminal Record, Child/Adult Abuse Registry, and Prior Contact checks.
