Position

 

Superintendent, Winter Ice Road - MLA, Nunavut

 

Location and Reporting Structure

Reporting to the Operations Manager, MLA, this position will be a fly in- fly out 3x3 rotation except at peak times where it is 4X2 ( estimated 4 times a year) based in Nunavut, Canada.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Develop detailed construction plans, including route selection, timeline, budget, and resource allocation;
  • Direct the construction and preparation of ice roads for transportation, this involves evaluating ice thickness, overseeing snow removal, leveling the surface, and guaranteeing safe passage for vehicles and equipment;
  • Oversee the mobilization of equipment and personnel for the construction phase, ensuring that all activities adhere to the planned schedule and budget;
  • Plan and coordinate the logistics for the transportation of materials, equipment, and personnel via the ice road;
  • Conduct regular inspections of the ice road to monitor conditions, identify potential hazards, and plan maintenance activities;
  • Interpret and monitor ice thickness data to determine maximum permitted vehicle size;
  • Assist in planning and implementation of work plans, and safe operating procedures, manage recovery of transport trucks when required;
  • Supervise the implementation of maintenance tasks, including ice thickness measurement, surface repairs, and snow removal;
  • Conduct regular safety inspections, hazard assessments, and emergency drills to ensure preparedness for potential incidents; and
  • Enforce a strict safety-focused work environment, ensuring compliance with B2Gold’s policies and procedures. 

 

 

Desired Competencies and Requirements

 

  • Ten (10) years’ experience in heavy equipment operation, winter road construction and earthworks with a minimum of four (4) years as a Supervisor;  
  • A ticket as a Heavy Equipment Operator or extensive supplemental experience in a variety of heavy equipment used for Civil and Earthworks construction;
  • A Nunavut WSCC Supervisory Level II qualification, or ability to obtain same; and
  • Previous experience working on a remote site in Arctic conditions with limited access to resources, is desirable.

 

Compensation and Benefits

For informational purposes, the annual salary for the role is $200,000.00 plus 15% Bonus.
