Position

 

Truck and Trailer, Heavy Equipment Technician - MLA, Nunavut

 

Location and Reporting Structure

Reporting to the Supervisor, Maintenance, this position will be a fly in- fly out 3x3 rotation based in Nunavut, Canada.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Diagnose and repair complex diesel engines, advanced electrical, and hydraulic systems;
  • Perform repairs and preventive maintenance tasks, including PM and safety inspections;
  • Complete required record-keeping for vehicle repairs, parts usage, and repair times;
  • Review, plan, and schedule work as needed. Mentor apprentice technicians and provide training to support their apprenticeship program;
  • Operate tools, equipment, and machinery following company safety procedures;
  • Ensure equipment and tools are maintained in safe operating condition;
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area in compliance with company safety standards;
  • Repair or replace damaged or faulty trailer parts, including electrical systems, tires, brakes, lights, couplers, and axles; and
  • Perform welding, fabrication, and bodywork repairs as necessary.

 

 

Desired Competencies and Requirements

 

  • Three (3) years experience as a Trailer Service Technician with the knowledge of trailer systems, including electrical, suspension, braking, and structural components preferably in an isolated arctic remote setting with limited access to resources;
  • Interprovincial Red Seal Heavy Duty Equipment Technician or Nunavut Heavy Equipment Technician CoQ. Valid driver’s license is required;
  • Ability to perform CVI inspections, and familiarity with transportation regulation;
  • Must be computer literate and willing to be trained in software systems including diagnostic software; and
  • Ability to follow schedules, instructions, technical manuals and maintenance guidelines, and other procedures associated with the maintenance of company fleet assets.

 

Compensation and Benefits

For informational purposes, the estimated annual earnings are $170,183.00 for 2184 scheduled hours (combined regular hourly rate of $61.75 and overtime rate of $92.63) in a work year.
