Position
Ventilation Engineer, Underground, Nunavut
Location and Reporting Structure
Reporting to the General Manager, Engineering, this position will be a fly in- fly out 3x3 rotation based in Nunavut, Canada.
Responsibilities
- Develop and design effective ventilation systems that meet the specific needs of the underground mine, ensuring optimal air quality and temperature control;
- Guide in the installation and commissioning of ventilation equipment. Conduct regular inspections to ensure systems operate efficiently and reliably;
- Ensure all ventilation systems comply with Nunavut, Canada, and industry regulations and standards. Maintain and update ventilation records, ensuring accurate documentation for regulatory compliance;
- Monitor air quality, temperature, and humidity levels using ventilation software and equipment to ensure a safe working environment;
- Collaborate with the health and safety team to identify and mitigate risks related to mine ventilation. Conduct risk assessments and implement safety protocols as required; and
- Prepare reports on ventilation system performance, maintenance activities, and compliance status. Present findings and recommendations to management.
Desired Competencies and Requirements
- Five (5) years’ experience in mine ventilation, preferably in an underground mining environment;
- Bachelor of Engineering, with specialization in Mining or Mechanical Engineering (Masters preferred);
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation and membership in the Nunavut Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientist (NAPEG) or ability to obtain same. Professional registration is mandatory;
- Proficiency in ventilation modeling software (e.g., Ventsim, VnetPC); and
- In-depth understanding of ventilation principles, air quality standards, and regulatory requirements. Familiarity with underground mining operations and equipment.
Compensation and Benefits
For informational purposes, the salary for the role is $155,000.00 Annually.
