The Company

B2Gold is a low-cost international senior gold producer headquartered in Vancouver, Canada. Founded in 2007, today, B2Gold has operating gold mines in Mali, Namibia and the Philippines, a mine under construction in northern Canada and numerous development and exploration projects in various countries including Mali, Colombia and Finland. B2Gold forecasts total consolidated gold production of between 860,000 and 940,000 ounces in 2024.

Position

Cost Accountant, Edmonton/Nunavut

Location and Reporting Structure

Reporting to the Assistant Superintendent, Finance, this position is temporarily based in Edmonton after which it becomes a fly in- fly out 3x3 rotation based in Nunavut, Canada.

Responsibilities

• Conduct in-depth analysis of mining operations costs, including extraction, processing, transportation, and equipment maintenance expenses. Identify cost drivers, analyze variances, and develop strategies to optimize cost-efficiency;
• Assist in implementing, applying and overseeing management accounting systems, processes and cash flow transactions in accordance with management accounting standards and requirements;
• Identify and assess financial and operational risks within the mining divisions. Assist in developing and implementing risk mitigation strategies to safeguard assets, enhance internal controls, and optimize resource utilization;
• Collaborate with management and finance teams to develop accurate and comprehensive budgets and forecasts. Monitor actual performance against budgeted targets, investigate discrepancies, and provide proactive recommendations to mitigate risks and capitalize on opportunities;
• Monitor expenditure and assess cost coding during the review of journal entries; Assist in implementing enhancements to control systems, identifying variances from targets;
• Assist in implementing and enforcing compliance with statutory requirements, controls, legislated regulations, internal policies, work standards, and governance requirements;
• Facilitate service delivery, serving as a liaison between financial and non-financial stakeholders, and offering guidance on the interpretation of financial and cost management reports; and
• Prepare reports and presentations for management and stakeholders that summarize cost-related information and provide insights into the financial health of B2Gold Nunavut.

Desired Competencies and Requirements   

• Five (5) years’ experience as an intermediate to senior cost accountant in a mining environment;
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Commerce or Finance;
• A Chartered Professional Accounting (CPA) designation is required;
• Working knowledge of financial information management systems, processes and financial/management reporting; and
• In depth knowledge of mining accounting methods, including financial planning & forecasting for site operations; knowledge and exposure to GL accounts and reconciliations.

Compensation and Benefits

For informational purposes, the starting annual salary for the role is $140,000.00
