About the Opportunity

Edgett Excavating is looking for a full-time Superintendent based in Comox Valley (Courtenay area), British Columbia.

Reporting to the General Superintendent, you will lead civil construction projects across Vancouver Island, taking ownership of project delivery by leading foremen and site teams while ensuring work is completed safely, productively, and in line with project expectations for quality, schedule, and cost performance.

In this position, you will be primarily responsible for overseeing all phases of assigned projects from setup through completion, including planning, coordination, execution, and ongoing site and financial management while maintaining strong communication with internal teams, clients, and project stakeholders.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Leading multiple civil construction projects and site teams through foremen
  • Overseeing project planning, scheduling, and to ensure projects stay on schedule
  • Coordinating materials, equipment, permits, and subcontractor activities
  • Managing project budgets, change orders, and progress invoicing
  • Ensuring compliance with safety requirements and site documentation standards
  • Liaising with clients, engineers, inspectors, and subcontractors on project delivery
  • Monitoring project productivity, quality, schedule, and cost performance
  • Mentoring foremen and field staff while driving continuous improvement through project close-out reviews

About You

To qualify, you will ideally have 5+ years’ experience in a civil construction leadership role, with proven experience managing civil construction projects from planning through to completion.

The following are required:

  • Valid driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  • Strong understanding of underground utilities and civil/municipal infrastructure projects
  • Experience leading foremen, subcontractors, and site crews on active civil construction projects
  • Working knowledge of project scheduling, site coordination, and resource planning
  • Familiarity with MMCD and BC civil construction practices
  • Background working closely with engineers, inspectors, and general contractors
  • Experience leading site safety practices and maintaining strong documentation standards
  • Strong ability to manage project financials, including change orders and progress tracking
  • Strong communication skills across field teams and external stakeholders
