About the Opportunity

ʔaq̓am is seeking a full-time Community Nurse based in Cranbrook, BC.

Reporting to the Director of Health and Wellness, you will support the health and wellbeing of ʔaq̓amnik̓ and the ʔaq̓am Community through nursing care, case management, and health promotion that respects cultural values and community priorities.

In this position, you will take the lead on home and community care services, oversee a small team of Registered Care Aides and a Home Support Worker, and coordinate wellness programs in partnership with regional and First Nations health agencies.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Conducting health assessments, developing care plans, and providing nursing services in homes and community settings
  • Coordinating and monitoring home and community care programs to meet individual and family needs
  • Supervising, mentoring, and scheduling Registered Care Aides and a Home Support Worker
  • Collaborating with FNHA, Ktunaxa Nation Council, Interior Health, and other partners to align services
  • Advocating for clients to access FNHA Blue Cross and other available health benefits
  • Managing medical supplies, immunizations, vaccines, and related health equipment
  • Maintaining accurate client records and documentation using systems such as Mustimuhw and Panorama
  • Supporting mental health referrals and promoting access to culturally safe care resources
  • Researching and developing health and wellness initiatives that encourage prevention and education
  • Preparing reports, proposals, and grant applications to fund community health priorities
  • Participating in emergency response planning and contributing to committees related to community health

More About You

To qualify, you will need 3–5+ years of experience in a similar community or clinical nursing position and be registered and in good standing with the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP), ideally with a specialization in Public Health.

The following are required:

  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and clean driver’s abstract
  • Access to reliable transportation to travel within the ʔaq̓am Community and Cranbrook area
  • Ability to undergo a Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Valid CPR-C and First Aid certification
  • FoodSafe Level 1 certification (or ability to obtain upon hire)

 As our ideal candidate, you will possess:

  • Experience in community-based or remote health environments
  • Proven ability to supervise, mentor, and support care aides and health staff
  • Knowledge of First Nations health systems, including FNHA and Ktunaxa Nation Council partnerships
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed and culturally safe nursing practices
  • Strong case management and client advocacy skills
  • Proficiency with electronic health record systems such as Mustimuhw, Panorama, or Meditech
  • Strong communication, documentation, and reporting skills
  • Understanding of budget coordination and grant proposal development
