About the Opportunity

Skeetchestn Indian Band is looking for a full-time Director of Operations based in Savona, BC.

Reporting to Chief and Council, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the administration, operations, and strategic initiatives that drive the success of Skeetchestn. As the senior management lead, you will ensure financial responsibility, effective program delivery, and alignment with the community’s long-term goals.

In this position, you will be primarily responsible for providing leadership across multiple departments, ensuring strong governance, and fostering relationships with internal and external stakeholders to enhance operations and services for the Skeetchestn community.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring managers have the tools, training, and support needed to run their departments effectively
  • Establishing clear roles and responsibilities for staff and promoting a positive work environment
  • Developing and maintaining policies for human resources, finance, programs, and operations
  • Supporting financial oversight by working closely with the Finance Manager on budgeting, reporting, and cost controls
  • Collaborating with Chief and Council to establish strategic goals and provide recommendations on governance matters
  • Attending and contributing to Council meetings while ensuring compliance with policies and regulatory requirements
  • Maintaining strong relationships with community members and fostering engagement through transparent communication
  • Negotiating, reviewing, and approving agreements, contracts, and funding proposals to support Skeetchestn’s growth
  • Representing Skeetchestn at external meetings and building partnerships with government agencies and stakeholders

About You

To qualify, you will need 5+ years of progressively responsible management experience within an Indigenous organization or government, with a strong financial background, including budgeting, funding agreements, and cost control.

The following are required:

  • Class 5 driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Ability and willingness to travel as needed
  • Ability to undergo a Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  • Knowledge of First Nations rights and title, Indigenous governance, and financial regulations
  • Experience working with Indigenous Services Canada and managing government funding agreements
  • Proven ability to lead managers and staff across multiple departments
  • Experience overseeing operations in administration, finance, social development, public works, and housing
  • Ability to uphold policies and ensure compliance with financial, human resources, and governance standards
  • Relationship-building expertise with community members, government agencies, and external stakeholders
  • Willingness to go beyond the job description to support operations and the community
  • A degree in Business Management or a related field (asset)

Compensation, based on skills and experience, includes a competitive annual salary of $90,792 – $114,317, along with a host of excellent benefits, including:
