The Medicine Hat location also provides engineering and technical support to organizations wishing to use the Suffield Experimental Proving Ground (EPG) and other specialized facilities at DRDC Suffield.

About the Opportunity
We have an opportunity for a full-time Electrical Embedded Systems Engineer to join our team on-site in Medicine Hat, AB.
In this role, you will support a range of engineering and product development projects across Amtech’s military, automation, CBR, and aeronautical sectors. Reporting to senior engineering leadership, you’ll contribute to embedded systems design, prototyping, testing, and technical support, working alongside multidisciplinary teams including internal staff, subcontractors, and client personnel.
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Designing and testing embedded hardware and software systems, including custom PCBs
- Providing technical support for prototyping, data acquisition systems, CBR sensors, and control systems
- Supporting electrical and instrumentation design, installation, and troubleshooting
- Supporting multi-disciplinary projects, including budget and schedule coordination
- Preparing technical reports, engineering documentation, and test plans
- Developing solid models and contributing to CAD drawing standards and applications
- Collaborating with engineers and technologists across military, automation, aeronautical, and CBR projects
- Assisting in the design and commissioning of Building Management Systems, including HVACR and lighting controls
- Participating in field testing at DRDC Suffield and other outdoor or lab-based sites
- Supporting the advancement and manufacture of Amtech’s CBR products and technologies
- Contributing to business development efforts and representing Amtech with clients
- Conducting data analysis and supporting software/hardware integration activities
About You
To qualify, you will need a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline such as Computer or Mechatronics Engineering, along with eligibility for registration with APEGA (or an equivalent provincial engineering body). A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in electrical and embedded systems engineering is preferred; new graduates are welcome to apply.
You must also be eligible to obtain/hold a Canadian passport (due to the security requirements of this role you must be a Canadian citizen). A driver's license is required.
Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:
- Experience with PLCs, SCADA systems, and field device programming
- Hands-on knowledge of Building Management Systems and HVACR controls
- Familiarity with embedded hardware/software development and custom PCB design
- Understanding of electrical codes, instrumentation, and installation drawings
- Exposure to military or aeronautical hardware specifications and environments
- Experience preparing technical documentation, test plans, and performing data analysis

Mandatory Conditions of Employment
You may be required to obtain and maintain a Canadian or foreign passport suitable for the travel requirements of your role at Amtech.
Occasional travel to client or test sites may be required, ranging from several days to two weeks, with expenses reimbursed under Amtech’s Travel and Living policy. In rare cases, extended travel to remote locations may also be necessary.
To access confidential documents or restricted airport areas, you may be required to provide information to obtain and maintain security clearances from Transport Canada or other Government of Canada authorities. You may also be asked to sign agreements related to office access, data and intellectual property confidentiality, and corporate credit card use.
