About the Opportunity

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Staffing and Workforce Planner to join our team in Delta, BC on a permanent, full-time basis. This is a hybrid role with a mix of one day a week working from home and from Boundary Bay airport in Delta, with a training period taking place fully in office. 

The successful candidate will oversee both short and long-term scheduling and forecasting for our Production Control team. This involves planning and reporting manpower schedules for a sizable unionized workforce and aiding management in achieving corporate goals. As the Staffing and Workforce Planner, ensuring timely, high-quality service to customers at the best cost means assigning the appropriate number of staff to the right tasks. Additionally, the successful candidate will manage the day-to-day operational support for our Production Control team's manpower planning and work scheduling needs, requiring flexibility and adaptability to organize and prioritize tasks efficiently.

More specifically, your main duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Forecast short and long-term staffing needs by analyzing ongoing operations’ throughput
  • Ensure compliance with the Collective Agreement regarding overtime assignment
  • Support the Production Control team with work scheduling, planning, and assignment activities
  • Monitor usage of employees across Functional Work Areas to determine manpower issues that may be obscured by shared resources
  • Identify high-cost drivers in the schedule and rectify through schedule re-work or adjustments
  • Take initiative in identifying schedule opportunities and risks, and implementing solutions
  • Identify current and anticipated bottlenecks due to manpower, assess potential solutions, and implement solutions
  • Liaise with team leaders to understand workforce capabilities and skills to plan better work alignment, discuss and analyze overtime trend data
  • Analyze workforce and skill gaps, and develop a workforce action plan including monitoring progress and updating management
  • Work closely with HR and business leaders to integrate standardized workforce planning practices into the organization
  • Liaise with HR and Labour Relations to address employee concerns related to manpower/overtime
  • Monitor work assignments and Weekend Passover to ensure resources are utilized optimally to meet operational demand
  • Analyze vacation levels and overtime to ensure staff is adequately allocated
  • Utilize Capacity Forecast tools to determine the level of staffing compared to operational needs, informing Production Control of potential shortfalls in resources
  • Review overtime plans for multiple departments and distribute weekly draft and final plans

More About You

In order to qualify for this role, you will need 2-3 years of related experience, with experience in project/production management, or working in a unionized environment being strong assets.

Additionally, the following would be required for this position:

  • Advanced MS Office skills
  • Experience with database ERP systems (e.g. SAP, Oracle, MS Access)
  • Experience with ADP 
  • Working knowledge of IAMAW collective agreements is an asset
  • Ability to interpret and apply collective agreements, and associated policies and procedures 
  • Knowledge of scheduling/forecasting systems
