About the Opportunity 

Currently, Homes First is looking for multiple dedicated Property Supervisors to join our team in Toronto, Ontario on a full-time basis. Shifts are afternoons from 4pm-12am, Sunday-Thursday or Tuesday-Saturday.

The successful candidates will be managing day-to-day operations within the shelter/hotel programs, while adhering to the mission statement, policies, and procedures of Homes First Society.

More specifically, your responsibilities will include:

  • Assist with the supervision, training, and management of Property Department staff, both unionized and non-unionized teams, in a unionized environment within the context of the Collective Agreement
  • Carry out daily, weekly, monthly corrective and preventive maintenance audits throughout the organization, ensuring all work has been completed accurately and efficiently and providing solutions
  • Determine how best to handle emergency repairs after business hours, including during overnight hours. Performing those repairs, coordinating licensed tradespeople, and following up with appropriate reporting
  • Oversee administration staff, scheduling and effective communications with contractors, housing, and shelter staff to ensure all municipal bylaws and Landlord Tenant Act regulations are implemented and followed
  • Oversee and support maintenance workers, and ensure proper safety PPE equipment is applied
  • Communicate regularly with Shelter Supervisors while onsite
  • Assist with supporting the Life Safety Coordinator when necessary
  • Assist with supporting Inventory Specialists, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of systems
  • Prepare and apply necessary WHMIS Workplace Hazards Materials Information System and Ministry of Environment guidelines and regulations
  • Complete ongoing professional development related to core responsibilities

More About You

In order to qualify for this role, you will have post-secondary education in a related field or equivalent experience.

The following skills and qualifications are essential to this role:

  • Self-motivated with the ability to problem solve individually and as part of a team/group
  • Demonstrated organizational, time management, and administration skills
  • Proficient in word processing, spreadsheet, and database software applications
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and teamwork skills; ability to maintain cooperative working relationships within your staff team and with other department staff members and interact positively with the tenant population who have experienced homelessness, mental health, and addiction problems
  • Knowledge of tenant population, diversity issues, anti-discrimination practices, and systemic reasons for homelessness
  • Knowledge of relevant laws, standards, and guidelines, including the Residential Tenancies Act and Toronto Hostel Standards
  • Knowledge of resources and services available in the community
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and customer service skills
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing; other languages would be an asset
  • Supervisory experience in a unionized setting is an asset
  • Certificates in First Aid, CPR, Crisis Prevention, and Intervention are assets
Please note that this role requires the ability to lift 25kgs, as well as the ability to provide or conduct a criminal record check.
